I got it for free, and I believe it still works since the place was upgrading everything to Cisco. How do I verify that it works? What exactly is it used for? It has a "400-2FX MDA" interface as well.

Update: Read the manual, but the networking materials are incomprehensible to me. I just know the "status" light indicates the thing is still good. That is pretty much it.

you can do with it what it was designed to do...connect computers within a local area network.

the 400-2FX module is a 100FX fiber uplink module. useless with only a single switch and in pretty much any home network.

the switch itself is pretty worthless...ive seen lots of 5+ sell for $10 :p

BehindEnemyLines, I have a special place in my heart for the BayStack switches. They once created a lot of revenue for me, with all their random failures.

They might be amusing to play with, but between their user interface, reliability, noise, and power consumption, chances are you're better off buying a cheap dumb switch for production use.
