What can I do with a Celeron366

I have an old Asus motherboard laying around along with 366 celeron and 256MB of ram. Between that crap and some other stuff laying around my house I have enough parts to put together a computer. Can I do anything with it? I am away at college so I got plenty of bandwidth. COuld I host a server for something?

FTP and web, sure. 366 is a little weak for hosting any game servers. Did you have anything in particular in mind?

It would be a nice little file server, emulator machine, or even a good old 98SE machine so that you can play your old games

Yep, overclocked it to 550 with a Slotket from MSI and use it for an RADEON VE AIW to capture everything from UFC to my home videos taken with my 4yr old super VHS-C camcorder which only has S-video out. Works great for MP3s, audio CDS, and DVDs as well so it makes a nice entertainment system minus gaming of course.

I just bought a dual celeron 333 system. I'm going to make it a firewall/router. I'm also going to try my hand at an online radio station.

You could make it a web/email/FTP/file server, or put it in your car and play MP3s.

You could hook it up to help off load some work from your main system. I think 3D Studio Max supports this.

You could make it a SETI/F@H/ECCp cruncher as well. I used a 366 Celeron system for quite a while as my main computer, from 1998-2001. If nothing else, put it together and sell it.

Win 2K runs just fine on a Celeron 300+

I'm still on one, and I can actually play any game made before summe 2002 with a decent fps.

A computer like that is still completely usable for a lot of things. If nothing else, a fellow student without a computer who just needs it for browsing and word processing might want to buy it. Put it up for sale on a bulletin board for a little extra cash. A complete, working computer for cheap should sell fairly quickly. Be sure you note that it is sold "as is," so the buyer doesn't expect support.

File server, remote access terminal, mini-entertainment hub for room or something. I use my old p3-450 to serve up mp3s and hold the 5 hds that won't fit in my system. Works great for storage purposes and media streaming. If you live in a big house, you can also broadcast mp3s TO IT, (for example in your room) or just generally use it in conjunction with terminal services to remotely manage (albeit from your bed) your hardcore workstation...

Build a personal file server and MP3 jukebox. I did that a while back - worked great with Win2k. I didn't bother investing in a KB, monotir or mouse. Just DL Remote Administrator and network it to your main rig.

I run a PII350 with WinXP. Fine for my digital image storage computer. Also fine for MP3, word processing, internet, etc. Would work fine as a file server too.
