I have a ps3 and love it but my brother knows a guy who has 2 xbox 360's banned from live. I was told it works (xbox) and i can play games... I know I cant play xbox live against people online that is a given. So he is selling me one for $50. its not the arcard $200 one.

If i buy this 360, i'm not interested in online game play but to use it for a media center. Also play sports games against friends at my place. mainly Madden and NBA 2k11. Would i be able to download the roster updates via USB drive and install them to the 360. Or can i least download that directly? I dont give a rats butt about playing people online. I do that via ps3.

Oh... can i transfer my game data from the banned 360 to a unbanned one. I know 2k11 has a create a player option where you can play your guy VS other people's guy.

cant run xvid/divx on banned 360s.

cant transfer your saves to/from banned 360 unless you want to recover your profile every time you put it back on the non banned one because it corrupts the hdd once you put it on the banned one.

cant update rosters via usb (dont think at least)

banned 360's cant get online at all or a local network, the network port is basically disabled totally.

i have a banned 360 and haven't used it in ages and last time i did it was freezing on the regular.

wow did not know banned 360's was so crippled. I thought it only prevented you from playing on xbox live. That sucks, I have a 360 that I think is flagged for the next round of bans (tried burned copy of fable on it with the new console).

I guess I have to make sure to block my 360 from accessing the Internet.

I always wondered why it intermittently wants me to connect to xbox live when playing xvid file.

I didn't realize this either. I'm surprised they haven't been sued over this. Seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

when you get on live you agree to their terms of services. flashing your fw invalidates the TOS and i'm sure in the fine print down there that it tells you something about it.

this isnt happening to anybody, only to people who are playing pirated games online.

Sure, that's always the counter argument, but disabling hardware is crossing a line I'm not sure could hold up in court. Especially since the TOS is for their online service and this apparently disables connectivity completely. They have a right to control access to their own service, but I'd love to see if they can defend knocking out access to any network.

It does not appear that the network port is disabled

http://www.ps3hax.net/2009/11/new-xbox-360-bans-have-more-punishments/

So, in summary:
Your Banned 360:
* Cannot go on Xbox Live
* Cannot install games to the HDD
* Cannot use Windows Media Centre extender
* Cannot be used to get achievements from backups without corrupting your profile

Windows Media Centre functionality is disabled. It is still possible to stream video/music content via the video library.

still will not be able to stream xvid since it occasionally requires you to log in to xbox live.
