I'm already doing that.... I want somethign to do w/it other than have a computer to use i have enough of them in the house.....

And have a media center already...

What? Just plug a monitor in, set up the system as a server (i.e. install your web server software, share some directories, maybe install VNC) then unplug the display when the system's working. It will keep on serving without a display.

Hook it up to a monitor, install OS of your choice, use VNC to manage it. Boom, server. What you do with it is your choice.

If it has S-video or RCA out -- depends on the age of the compy -- it'd be a perfect candidate for a media center. As far as a server... what kind of server did you have in mind? Gameserver? Mailserver? FTP Server? You gotta have an idea of what you want to do with it before you can do it. :p

Regardless, I suggest running something Linux-ey or Win2k, depending on what you plan to do with it. (some games don't have easily available *nix builds if you're planning on running a gameserver)

VNC indeed! Great idea.

Give us some stats on the f%$#ing thing and we'll give you some ideas you re-re. Processor, Ram, HD space, what outputs it has, how many PCMCIA ports, USB, blah blah blah.
