what can i do to get my guinea pig to like me?

have him for almost a month now... yet he always seems so scared of me...

once a day i get him and sit him on my chest and give him lettuce as a treat and i was hoping this would make him more used to me but as soon as i put him back in his cage he freaks out and runs around and hides in his cardboard box house...

They're timid by nature. Be patient. Handle him gently, and talk to him in soothing tones. Play with him, offer him treats by hand, and makes sure he feels secure when he's held, and as he's picked up/put down.

maybe its not you. perhaps its previous owners treated it bad, and it is afraid of all humans.

If it's not a very personable pig to begin with, there isn't a whole lot you can do.

MY friend has the fattest guinea pig ever...

But yeah he plays wth it a lot and lets it roam around on his bed and stuff.

Yeah, better get a dog if you want him to like you. These guinea pigs, hamsters and the like got no brains to be able to like somebody. They're just too stupid for that. It's like you'd want a fish to like you. Not going to happen. Cats are also tricky in this department. So a dog is the only choice IMO.

i guess i could try being extra gentle with it... i just realized maybe when i yank him out of his cage it might scare him...

i'd let him roam around on my bed except i dont want it to poop on it... altho he hasnt pooped on me yet... so maybe he's naturally potty trained

Maybe he wants to crawl on your bed!!! Thats why he doesn't trust you, you can't trust him! All he wants to do is do a little adventuring on your bed and you're worried about a little poopy, we all make mistakes!

hey, my fish (Mr. Jangles RIP) loved me. he would get happy everytime he saw me. he almost jumped out of the tank once out of pure joy.

i dont want my guinea pig to be gay..
also 2 males will fight typically
and a male and a female will breed real fast

so i guess a shoulda got a female but too late now.
