What can I do for a career?

I'm lost, a senior in high school, plan on going to college, but I have no idea on what to do. I am somewhat skilled with computers, went through classes and such, but I also like working with numbers. So basically what kind of careers are their in the office, or anything that someone would recommend. Or maybe by a long shot, someone likes their job? And would recommend, any feedback is appreciated.

Edit: I did not get very far in math during high school, due to teachers and our small town, they never forget things...but I am really good with math and using numbers, thinking about accounting as well

Whatever you do, Make sure that it is something that you are interested in. Trust me dont chose something just because you think the money is going to be good. Go with something you enjoy.

You've basically got the first two years of college to make a decision, so there's no rush. Take some different courses in computers and math, and maybe business. Talk to professors in different fields about what to expect. You'll figure it out.

I have no idea, but I will say: Don't fvck things up first year. Unlike highschool, where grades don't matter for a sh*t except to get you in university, they do matter once you're there - if you plan on getting a masters/phd. And if you think "you're different", then you'll be all the more easily swayed by the drinking and sleeping in.

Yeah, like sociology. Then when he's paying back $30k in student loans making $9/hour at the coffee shop he can go back to school and do something that makes money :)

Very well put. I'm retaking half of my freshman semester courses due to this.

Thanks everyone for the replies...does college help to pick your career? Because I know we had career classes in high school, but they didn't help at all...all they did was list every single job you could ever have.

Do you have any interest in programming? Computer Science or Computer Engineering might be good for you.

I started off in Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering and found that I was not good at all with programming. (That was a major suprise since I'm good with most other aspects of computers.) So I decided to switch to Mechanical Engineering since I also enjoy R/C cars and real cars, etc. As it turns out, Mechanical Engineering gives you a HUGE field of work to choose from. Right now, I'm designing plastic parts for cars. I use a computer almost all day long to create the parts in 3D and to run stress analysis on the parts to simulate real life. My work has very little hands on work. It is a great blend of my engineering degree and my computer skills. (I also manage data, import/export data for other customers, and I seem to have to troubleshoot a computer once a week for the department.)

If you have the discipline to get through it, I believe that an engineering degree of some sort will give you a lot of options in the future, as well as challenging work that will keep you interested.

i would say take 2 years of Liberal Arts in college and you'll find out a lot more about what's for you in that time.

College is what you make of it. It wont help you pick your career unless you try out different things. For example, I got involved in student government cause I was interested somewhat in it...found out it was crap, dropped that. Now I work for the EMS system here and the Office of Public safety. I love both jobs, and I really enjoy my major. I also play ultimate frisbee when I can, something I didnt think I would like. Get involved and then you will find out...stay in your room and study and you never will.

That's a good way to go too. If you know that you want to do something in science/math/engineering (basically something heavy in math) then most classes that you take early on will apply to whatever major you choose.
