What can I do about a washed out LCD?

Hey folks.

I bought a used eMachines e17t not too long ago, and it's not bad, but the colors are just more washed out than my Viewsonic P95f CRT. The darks are no where near as dark, and it's just kind of a pain to look at.

I realize that buying a new, better LCD would be ideal, but the money just isn't there right now.

So I'm curious, what can I do? Are there any programs I can use to figure out what settings it needs to be at? I have the contrast and brightness down very low. If I don't have them down there, it really looks bad.

This is hooked up as the second display on a Radeon 9700. I use a DVI->Analog adapter with it.

Thanks!

hmmm. try displaymate which has a range of tests and tuning options. It may not be free though.

Well, if you had an nVidia card then I'd instantly say DVC, but you're not so that won't help. Um, I don't know. I think thats just something you have to deal with on LCDs.

I'm currently running an ATi card, so I lost my DVC and wow do things looke kinda washed out now. The 2005FPw looks like its still pretty vibrant, but the 2001FP looks pretty washed out. Its making it hard to favor the ATi card for desktop use.
