Buy something more than $1.51 and tell them to simply charge the card $1.51.

I thought about that but I'd just feel really weird about telling them to charge just $1.51 on the card..I can see myself forgetting how much is left and tell them to charge $1.61 on there and be really embarrassed that a $1.61 charge didn't go through.

screw that. I keep a couple cards like that around for using online. If I am doing a trial offer that needs a CC, I use one of them. The sites usually just check to make sure that they can charge something ($1). That way if I forget to cancel, the site will do it for me.

Wouldn't it work like any other rebate/gift card? You charge what's left, then it prompts you to pay the remaining amount.

Is that what happens? The machine at the store would actually do that? I figure I'd just be denied for any purchase > $1.51.

That's how store specific ones work. I've never used a visa/amex one that lets you go anywhere you want.

Get a soda from the WaWa. You won't use every last penny, but that'll take care of most of it.

Just use it up on your next purchase and pay for the balance some other way. I do this all the time since I get prepaid VISA cards with rebates and always have a little bit left over. Most stores will do this automatically for you.

Once I get down to a really low amount on my rebate cards, I write down the amount on a small piece of paper and tape it to the front of the card. That way I don't forget how much to charge on there. Actually, one time I did forget, and the cashier asked if that's how much she should put on the card.

If you don't do that, you'll probably wind up making a purchase that's close to $1.51 but not exactly that, and then you'll throw away the card even though it still has 20 cents on it or something like that.
