I'd like to see them put to work building a modern "Great Wall" along our Southern border. If we're going to spend money like crazy, let's at least try to kill more than one bird with each trillion dollar stone...

seriously.

First thing is raising kids is a job for professionals. Pay the folk who stay home, maintain households, and take care of kids. Our whole system is utter horse shit, based on paying the person who hunts meat, and not the folk who grow the veggies and cook the meat. A society is an organic whole and only the selfish, self-interested, detached, mostly male units of that society get any reward. They are the ones who are expendable, the ones who were sacrificed to the leopards to keep the cats from eating the young chimps, and now they are the gods.

Our culture is totally sick and it's dying because of the lack of jobs. Everybody has a job in an organic unit. Everybody should be caring for everybody else. It's is built on a war of men against women.

I wish I was crazy like Moonbeam. Life would be so easy if I could walk around in a haze.

And who pays the salary of those who maintain the home?

That's why marriage works so well; one can stay home and maintain the household while the other works to bring in the income for both.

I think you have it backwards; the war is the women against the men. When women do everything, there is no place for the men. If a man attaches himself to a woman in today's society, the woman has all the rights and can hang the man out to dry for no valid reason. So, the men don't want to be attached to a woman; the women are stuck working outside with no one to care for the home and the men are wandering around looking for entertainment.

First of - stop having the media and the President perpetuate a "this is the worst time in history". All it does is make people horde their money and not spend anything and makes things much worse.

Come on spidey. You and I both know its only the GOP who perpetuates the FEAR FEAR FEAR mantra. If Obama said anything to that effect (which he has) he was misunderstood.

So all of these people saying that unemployment is bad and getting worse and that the stimulus isn't working....those type of things?

I personally don't see a 6.9% savings rate (which it currently is) as a bad thing. If people don't deleverage themselves, there will be further bubbles to pop only making it worse.

Well I'm serious. If you keep telling people this in commercials, in government position, in reporting what the hell did you think is going to happen?

It will get worse. I am so sick and tired of BB and his ilk (media included) perpetuating this crisis. What will get us out of unemployment slump? Production. What leads to higher production? More consumption/purchasing.

Well, except that industry figured out that women will work better then men for half pay and so now men make nothing too and both husband and wife have to work. So since women HAVE to do everything, men made themselves irrelevant.

Instead of worrying about what the President is saying and what the media is saying, the best solution to our economic problems is--real concrete solutions to our economic problems and not touchy-feely "good times are here again" media rhetoric.

Our nation hasn't reached the point of no return, but we do need to heavily restructure our economy. The problem is that the wealthy people who have benefited from the current state of affairs and who have the power to make the changes aren't going to do it unless they are being threatened by the guillotine. When people start looking at them and chanting, "Chop chop!", perhaps then they'll be ready to do something substantive.

Or tax cuts, especially capital gains, along with reduced spending. Nevermind that NO time in US history (under any party control) has spending actually been CUT from one year to the next, period.

Edit: Brings up an interesting point in wondering if spending can be currently cut because it is so damn high. With one war winding down and some of the TARP money coming back in, can spending be at least temporarily cut (barring more social program passage) for the first time?

I think the real problem is people depending on the government for everything. They see the bailouts given to large companies and now think the government will bail them out too. So they wait , looking to the government to solve the problem. People need to just forget that capitol hill exists and start coming up with their own solutions.

And what happens when the nurturers go on strike because they aren't getting paid enough?

I tried to forget but then they garnished my pay to cover back taxes!
