I have something that i wanted to ask you all about tonight. A friend of mine has been eating next to nothing for the past couple of days, but she doesn't know why. :( She seems worried about it, and i really want to help her, so i've tried looking this up on the net, but couldn't narrow it down to anything because there are just too many possible causes. So i figured i'd post here and see if someone happens to know what can cause a young woman to lose her appetite? And while you're at it, you might as well tell me why i've been eating next to nothing for the last week myself :) Any help here would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance everyone!

Anxiety mixed with mood swings of melancholy, anger, guilt, and desperation. They call it PMS.

not sure, but this is just an idea

you are very relaxed, not done anything physicly hard for a long time, that means that the body is gone into power saving mode, what you must do is something that tries on the body, like take along work or something, something that stimulates the body to work faster.

Ask her to exercise and sleep normally, that might cure it.

If not however, you could always hit the pipe with her and get mad munchies.. oh man i remembered one of the first times I got the munchies... i went to denny's and got their grand slam special:

2 pancakes, 2 sausace, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, coffee, sprite, and hash browns doubled/covered/smothered

Then came home, ate 2 corn dogs, cup-o-noodles, slice of cheesecake.

Then watched a movie on my computer, and ate a bag of kettle corn and 3 big stick popsicles.

...needless to say i didn't feel that great in the morning, but hey if you really need to eat i ate what I usually eat over the course of 2 days in about 2 hrs.

Can't speak for your friend but generally glancing at the covers of a few magazines in the checkout line of the supermarket and seeing how poorly I measure up weightwise in comparsion kills my appetite but good.

Stress is a big part....

Also, I had something similar before.... I forgot what it was... You know I love to eat... but I just can't keep anything down... I get stomach pain when I eat. Er, I got better.

models and actresses on the covers of magazines wear like a size 2 yet manage to be unbelievably shapely with large breasts...these are the women good, designer clothing is tailored to and marketed to, currently in Hollywood the average dress size is a 2 with any woman over a size 6 being considered obese.

I rarely get "hungry" - I usually know that I've forgotten to eat (which I do A LOT) by the fact that I get really shaky. It's annoying, because I can't really function well then - I have little warning when hunger is about to strike. So maybe she can do what I have to do sometimes - eat on a schedule. Not too much of course, but enough to provide energy and nutrients. I usually eat when not hungry - only because I notice that it's been about 6hrs since I last ate anything.
And, I've found that not eating for a long time can make the idea of eating even less appealing. I usually get over it quickly once I start on something really tasty.:)

Some interesting opinions here. She's slim though, so i doubt her weight has anything to do with it.

I said shapely with large breasts with the rest of the body being very small..so I'm not talking about Flockhart :)

What's interesting though is on these tv shows that when one actress slims down, has surgery the others usually follow suite to avoid looking huge next to her.An example of this would be the show "Friends" look at early episodes at how much bigger the characters were then.

anything from an acute stressful episode or a mineral deficiency to an insidious infection, all the way to terminal cancer. Consult a very open-minded and patient physician if it persists

Perhaps all the blame for the appetite suppressants. Now there are a lot of such people on the Internet - <SPAM LINK DELETED>. I personally don’t trust such means.

Wow...you had to dig up a 17 year old thread to spam your garbage here? Well done.
