What would be the best motherboard/cpu combo under $250 for RC5 (used/ebay/whatever)?

Two options..

1. DDR System:

Epox 8K7A - $119
Athlon 1.33ghz - $130

Total: $249

2. SDRAM System:

Iwill KK266 - $107
Athlon 1.33ghz - $130

Total: $237

:)

BTW - The 1.33ghz should easily overclock to 1.5ghz with a decent HSF...:)

"1.33 axia y here with glaciator at 1.4 max"

Well, first of all, that's only one CPU. What are the rest of your components? The Glaciator is not the best choice for a HSF either. All new 1.33ghz and 1.4ghz CPU's are the newer AYHJA stepping, and they usually do better than AXIA's. Even taking that into account, less than a 100mhz overclock is pretty bad for any recent Tbird. No offense, but I have to think you might not be using the chip to it's full potential.

The Athlon 1.0 GHz and 1.13 GHz (266 FSB) is a great deal right now, and will take you well below $250. For example:

IWILL KK266 Motherboard
COOLING FAN
AMD T-BIRD 1133(266MHZ) $222

You may find it cheaper elsewhere. This should overclock pretty good as well.

I have a Tbird-1000@1300.. I got mine from Compuwiz1 - the chip will actually go to 1.4 GHz, but then I experience problems with my video card, so I throttled back on the cpu and the problems go away.

I don't have any experience with higher speed procs yet! ;)
