What camcorder would you buy if you had $3000?

Looking to get a new camcorder (prosumer/pro level) next March or so. What camera would you get? The Canon XL1s and pretty much most Canon's because they capture video at 29.96 and not 29.97. After transferring the footage to your computer via Firewire, the audio becomes unsynced after about 6 minutes. It's a pain in the ass! The only workaround is to capture via analog (S-Video).

By golly, I'd be in heaven with that kind of budget. Last time I even remotely glanced at prosumer stuff, it was entirely analog and Panasonic ruled the roost. I'm pretty partial to Sony, but I'd shop pretty damn carefully if I was about to drop that much coin. I've NEVER heard of that sound sync situation. I could easily have gotten burned on that, because I thought that XL1 was the camera to beat. :Q

The Sony VX2000 is rated VERY highly amongst users. Most porn films are shot with this camera. Look at the quality........

The new PD150 or something like that is also rated very highly. That is the camera most of the news stations used to do footage of things in Iraq.

The reason I even got into this damn computer stuff, is because some clown told me I could edit my video tapes on one. This was back around 1992. He was trying to talk me into an Amiga with 'Video Toaster' and all this other equipment. Would have set me back $10,000.00 for the whole package!

My friend actually just bought one in that range...he said it's the AG-DVX100 seen here. He does a lot of shows around here, and hopes to make it into a fulltime business someday, so I'm sure he had good reasoning when he bought it.

It's a really nice cam, I've seen it a few times...so many buttons. :D If you had any questions inparticular, I could always ask him for you.

Same sync problem in the GL line as well. You can do a search on it if you would like. Type something like "29.96 canon" in google. It's interesting! I've seen the problem first hand and had to recapture everything via an analog connection.

That's a good one as well. I think I am going between the one you mentioned and the new HD JVC one. I'll see how they do over the next months. I also wanted some feedback. Thanks!
