What brands besides creative sound blaster?

:disgust:I just find creative to be a power hog using the audigy2. Could be the drivers or just the design.

:roll:I have removed the audigy2 and I am using the realtek alc850 which comes with the msi neo2 platinum nforce3 ultra. Not the greatest sound but not a memory and cpu hog. A considerable difference in performance not using the audigy2.

What would anyone reccomend in 5.1 digital sound cards that dont take up a lot of cpu and memory to operate and sound good.

your cpu uses way more power than your audigy 2. and your onboard audio uses more cpu cycles than audigy 2.

you can try to reinstall the drivers, because any sound card is better than realtek's.😕

I don't know about 5.1 digital.... soundcards, but a good cheap high quality stereo digital card is the Chaintech AV710. It's digital out is via optical vs digital coaxial like your audigy is (I think.. don't own one).
