Well, we standardise on a D-Link DSL-G604T across our company with people who work from home. Not had any hardware issues reported from 60+ users in about 1 year.

Another vote for the Linksys WRT54g with the third party firmware gives you feature of higher dollar routers. I saw some at wal-mart the other day for 50 bucks no rebates no hasseles and I believe this is their regular everyday price.

Stay away from D-Link. Bought their 802.11g wireless router and for the life of me I could not WPA encrypt; calls at DLINK went unanswered. Their 802.11b was hard to encrypt with WEP- Had to call the vendor. Then saw a Pre 802.11n Belkin wireless router and laptop PCMCIA card for $200 at Costco. Installed perfectly- WPA encryption a breeze. I get 108MBPS on the laptop consistently.

I'll throw my vote for the WRT54G as well. It's stock firmware does everything I need it to, being able to flash to other 3rd part versions makes it much more flexible. It's wireless abilities have been extremely reliable for me and being able to set QOS based on Port or MAC is huge for my network set-up.

I saw the reviews on the new belkin router...looks very sweet...don't think I can swing another 200 bones out of the wife though...I over stepped my bounds with the purchase of the laptop :)

How hard is it to find a reliable open source firmware for the linksys router ? Also is it work looking at the next model up ? the Linksys WRT54GS Wireless-G Router ?

From what I have read the only real difference is if you are going to be doing alot of file transfers between computers...the actual speed of the wireless doesn't increase over the Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Router

Thanks for the replies guys

Get one with a built in print server to easily share it if you have multiple computers. It's a very handy feature!

That said, I like the SMC WBRP2804-P
