Living in the midwest (Ohio) we have never gotten one of those shrink-wrapped turkeys from the supermarket, we always get them from a turkey farm nearby. (Midwest definition of &quot;nearby&quot;: no more than 45 minutes away by back roads, no more than 30 min by highway.)

Last Thanksgiving we had a tofurkey. Even through I went into the meal thinking &quot;this is going to be gross&quot;, it actually wasn't bad. It wasn't 100% turkey-like, but it was as close as we could get, and my and I got ot eat the same thing for Thanksgiving dinner, and that's a plus.
