The BF Goodrich tires on my truck have lasted a very long time and I expect them to last a lot longer.

Between a sets of BFGoodrich, I tried a set of Kumho. They are nice, but wear WAY too quickly.

I got Traction T/As when they first came out 3 years ago. No complaints at all.

Don't really have a favourite. I just research and buy the best tire for my requirements.

This year I wanted a great summer only tire that'd be good at the drag strip too.
Bought a pair of BFG KDW2's, and they didn't disappoint. Very sticky in the corners too.
Next year I'm going to do some more autocross/roadracing, and I'm eyeballing Toyo T1R's because they come in a 205/45/15 as opposed to the usual 205/50/15.

consumer reports
normal consumer doesn't go through enough tires to really have a valid opinion.

That's how I got opinions on my last tire purchase. I put Bridgestone Potenza G 009s on my Accord coupe.

I Put a set of these on my Corolla S recently & they made a huge improvement over the OEM Potenza RE92's ... I chose them because they had decent ratings & because I got them for $82 each including a road-hazard warranty.

Michelin & Bridgestone overall have been the best brands for me, but its tough to get good deals on Michelin tires.

Falken ZE-512s

have had them on 2 cars and they are excellent. Very nice grip and they lasted 55k miles for me (rated for 50k). Just ordered 4 more ZE-512s to replace the ones that are done with.

saw the consumer reports 11/06 article.

Traction t/a's were not given editor's choice :( missed it by 1 spot

Editor's choice (H-rated tires):
1) Dunlop SP Sport 5000 $81
2) Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S 78
3) Falken Ziex ZE 512 56
4) Continental ContiProContact 77
5) Michelin Pilot XGT H4 98
6) Bridgestone Potenza RE950 80

7) BFGoodrich Traction T/A $68

And where can you get Traction T/A's for $68?! Walmart sells it for $105 (doesnt include balance/mounting).

Mainly Michelin, but I'll consider others. I used to like Dunlop a lot, but not any more, since I blame the ones on my 02 Accord for contributing to a wet weather accident. They have rain grooves on the outer edge that are smooth long before the rest of the tread. WTF? It was like having a partial slick with half the tread left. Grrr.

yokohama avids worked good for me. Trying some Nankang tires which seem ok. Haven't had them long enough to give a good opinion but so far so good. General the brand feels like bricks

Hey... If your dad is paying for the tires, get whatever brand HE wants. :)

Michelin tires are good, but there are better valued tires out there. If you're footing the bill, look at some of the other brands recommended in this topic. Check those Sears sale flyers, too... They sometimes have some great bargains.

Used, cheap, hold air, have more tread then what I am replacing them with.

I am well over having to have name brand tires, new. I can get name brand used tires with 50% tread life or better for $20 each mounted and balanced. And they dont go to the land fill before their time. Now what I am giving them in return, they are worn out and have every right being recycled or going to the land fill ;)

Tires the most important safety component on a vehicle. With that attitude, you may as well not wear your seatbelt.

To answer the thread, I like Toyos. I ride Proxes4 all-seasons year round, and T1-S summers for the summer/track.

Wait are you saying buying a used tire is bad and I will die???? If thats the case then everyone should be replacing their tires once they leave the tire shop, for then are they not used tires? :p:p:p There is absolutely nothing at all wrong with buying a used set of tires, in fact its best that you do because your not allowing something go to the landfill that doesnt need to be there just yet.

Most of the time the reason there are good life left on used tires is because of people who think like you, and those who may have ruined one tire and have to have all 4 matching sets so they pitch the other 3 and buy 4 new ones. Doesnt mean in the least the other three are no good, it just means I get a $80 tire for $20 mounted and balanced and Im saving the earth in a way.

How in the hell is this a bad thing all around or not safe?:p:p
I could just imagine what would happen if everyone thought used tires were bad and could blow up, I just laugh inside thinking of your comment, may as well not wear my seat belt because a used tire is unsafe and I can die. What made that used tire safe on the car it came off of then unsafe when it became "used" and went on mine? Because I paid $20? Because it got slapped the name "used" on it? I mean really, wasnt it used before I even got it?

Acording to you used tires are bad and as unsafe and a risk taker as not wearing your seat belt so EVERYONE be afraid, your used tires on your cars are teh bad, take your wheels off and to the nearest tire shop and have new tires put on. Then DONT DRIVE YOUR CAR for then the tires will be used and you could die again!!!!! AHHHH The humanity of used tires, when will it stop this vicious cycle, and when will I not have used tires on my car that will kill me and my family, when oh lord, WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!!!Just think if everyone thought "used" tires were a bad thing what would happen to our land fills

My goodness please explain to me how you come to the conclusion that buying used tires and putting them on a car is unsafe and may as well not wear a seat belt for its just as bad? Explain to me your years of study you have done on the used tires where it is safe while it is on the original car but once it is taken off and put on another car the highways will flow red with blood. Please explain!! I stuck 2 new tires on my car a year ago and they are now used, and the two on the back were used when I bought the car, used, and you have me too afraid to even drive my car now, I called my wife at work and told her to walk how for she could die, I stuck all 4 used tires on her Jeep, WHAT HAVE I DONE, OH and I stuck all 4 used goodyear tires just like what she had on there that came new on it too. Oh she is a dead girl if she drives that Jeep home, and I just couldnt live with myself for I bought used tires and I put them on the one I love's car. Oh oh oh I just want to die.

NOT. Get a grip. Everyone is driving on used tires even you, and you, and you, and you and no one is going to die worse because they decided to buy someones used tire to save a few bucks, and spare the land fill a few tires.

OH and here is some food for thought as your trolling down the highway at 70 MPH next to that Semi. Take a good look at all 18 tires he has on his heavy ass truck, you looking good?? Because 90% of them your looking at are either USED or recaps. Whats a recap? Well thats when the tire becomes completely bald and they send it to Rodgers recap place and he melts on a new set of tread to that worn out used tire and resells it for cheap. Wanna talking about something unsafe, I had 3 Michelin recaps explode on me, there is a reason your supposed to put a semi tire in a cage as you fill them with air, they are so unsafe just filling them, and yet they are ok to go put on the truck running next to you and your family doing 70+ MPH Bet you feel much safer now ;) Yeah I worked for Semi replair places and we sold new, used, and recaped semi tires so I have a little experience in this matter on used and new tires for cars and semi trucks and not talking out my ass, and in no way would be doing anything I felt unsafe to put me, my family, or anyone else on the road in harms way.

If used tires were so bad and blew out killing all kinds of people, as the guy I quoted says, they would ban the sale of used tires, wouldnt you think? If there should be ban on used tires it should be on a semi recap tire, IMHO recaps should be against the law. They blow out all the time from being over stressed and they are always losing their tread on the highway causing accident when people try to swerve a 100lb hunk of rubber being thrown at their car, or laying out in the middle of the road. How many car tire treads you all see all over the highway? I rest my case with this ass hats thought of used car tires are bad ;)

I used to use Gatorbacks on my 1988 GT back in 1991, these I got used almost every 2-3 months from the local highway patrol turn-ins...I used some Dunlops on my 1966 GT in 1988/89...they were decent.

I have tried the Kumho Escta 721's, Yoko AVS's, Sumitomo HTR200's (on my wife's car and I like these, they last long...give good handling esp in the rain and are quiet)...now I am back to Goodyear F1 GS-D3's...on sale they were not so much more expensive than a Kumho.

Used tires are a great buy, esp in popular stock sizes when people upgrade to larger wheels and tires. Unfortunately you don't find too many running a 245/40R17 to 235/40-45R17

Continental's are a good tire at a reasonable price. Have them on both bimmer's and they have good tread life and nice ride..

PS Why do so many people spell "brakes" incorrectly? (breaks)

I've tried several brands and every one has disappointed me except Michelin. I now have Michelin tires on all three of my cars. I won't buy any other brand again.

I love my goodyear's like I said, but I did have Mich's on my old volvo and they wore well and gave great snow traction.
