I'm building a system for my brother, as well asone for a (former) coworker. They will both be quite similar, and the only part I am having trouble deciding on is what motherboard to use. The components I have decided on are as follows:

Duron 600
128PC100 Curcial RAM
40gig Maxtor
250Watt PS
TNT2U or V3 (both don't need heavy graphics)
SB Live
Plextor 8x CDR
Panasonic CD-ROM
Floppy
Generic ATX case

They would both like to overclock as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

MSI doesn't overclock. You can get the KT7 with raid or without, you can get the A7V with sound or without. Not all A7Vs come with dipswitches for overclocking, make sure you get the right one. Performance wise they are about equal, I think the KT7 wins by just a little bit. The KT7 is better for FSB overclocking and does all the multiplier adjustment in the BIOS, another plus.

Having a computer isn't all about overclocking, Abit sucks anyway. I'd got Asus or MSI.

For overclocking go with ABIT KT7 ,not overclocking & best for stability go with MSI K7T PRO.

Ok...

Well, I recommend the A7V for overclocking, its cheaper than the KT7 non-RAID(actually around the same price, but A7V has extra ATA100 controllers).

Go for the Microstar K7T. Not to be confused with the Abit KT7. Oh yeah, for all those Asus zealots, the Abit board is better cuz its 100% jumper free! AND Anand said so!

Are you for MSI or Abit?

I know Im for MSI and Asus. Just those 100% jumperfree doesnt make the KT7 a better board than A7V.

Oh, I'm not taking sides for mobo companies, lol :p I say they are both good, but if for non-overclocking, the K7T is all that's needed, and cheaper too.

Personally, I would trust Asus over ABit. I've heard too many horror stories about ABit motherboards. It looks like it'll probably be the A7V for me. :D

Like Mem said, if there's no overclocking go for the MSI K7T pro. I own one and it's a really great board. But if your overclocking then go for the Abit KT7, it's a lot easier with the multiplier function in BIOS.
