What brand memory?

New to the forums here, and I have a question on memory.

I haven't built a PC in a couple of years now. It got to a point where for my needs (MS Office and the internet), that buying a Dell or Compaq was so cheap that building my own from scratch wasn't worth my time. Yet I'm still the family "computer guru" due to the fact that there was a time that I knew everything about the latest hardware.

I have family members asking for me to upgrade their memory for them for Christmas, but I'm not sure what brand(s) to buy.

I have a dell desktop running PC2700 with an AMD processor to upgrade and a Compaq notebook running running PC2100 notebook memory (I believe it's Toshiba memory).

Any suggestions on which brands of memory to buy? Normally I'd just buy the generic cheapo memory, but last time I did that I had some blue screen issues that went away as soon as I swapped them out for some brand name memory.

I guess what I'm asking for is suggestions on where to buy and what brands.

I've been running Centon PC2700 memory in my laptop for 3 months and my desktop for 2.5 years with no problems. If cost is not a concern, I would go with Mushkin or Crucial. Otherwise, Centon is good and stable if you are not planning on overclocking much or at all.

crucial has $5 off the next purchase plus free shipping (over $40 and in US) (ends Nov. 15)

I just bought some ram there and they sent me a coupon, but the thing is that it appears anyone can use it because it is an online coupon.

Just go to http://www.crucial.com/promo/offer.asp

can't go wrong
