I love my Thermaltake Silent Boost, it's very quiet, and my temps dropped 15C from the stock HSF.

For about $40 you can get the Zalman 7000AlCu. Heres a link
Its one of the quieter high performing heatsinks you can find. It also comes with a fan controller.

As far as I know the Zalman is by far the best performance to noise HS/F out there. The only problem with recommending it is that it?s rather huge, so it?s not a guarantied fit. IF it dose however it?s un-matched in performance and quality.

Other good alternatives are Alpha and thermalright with a panaflow or whatever fan you chose.

Alpha
Thermalright

I have the ThermalTake Venus 12. I am not an expert on HSFs, but I like mine. Works great, under $30, and the temperature-controlled option is nice to have. And it has a LOT more metal surface area than the stock HSF. At that price, it is hard to go wrong. But this asusmes that you are using an Athlong 64

I got one of the Thermaltake Volcano models for an older Athlon, and it was kind of cheesy.

So, the short answer is: tell us what processor you are using first.

Own a Zalman Cu7000A here, although it has been updated to Cu7000B.

So only go for the Cu7000B since it is an update.

No noise even on High Mode, go for it.

For compatibiltiy, your likely to run in trouble if your Mobo is a 3 PCI Slot.

You will run into trouble if your CPU Socket rest b/w the Rams and AGP Slot. ex the ECS 755A2

What do you think about a vantec tornado on the heatsink instead of a panaflo? Better results or worse? Noise is not my #1 concern right now, but it does concern me a little. I dont want my computer sounding like an F-16 when it starts up...

I prefer Thermalright myself. Pretty much anything you pick up, as long as it uses 80mm fans, will work great. As for the Tornado option, don't do it. They are damn loud! Not f-16 loud, like a whole squad of f-16s loud.
