What books do you guys recommend for someone who is having problem with Calculus

It isn't that I can't understand. Its more like I find it to be incredibly boring. The textbook is quite horrible.

Anyone of you guys know something refreshing that teach calculus in a style that isn't like a textbook? With problems and also with solutions with explanations etc.

Perhaps even with real world examples.

Thanks!

Wrong forum, try off topic.

But, there is a fun, humourous calculus book out there. I think there is one for AB and one for BC. I cant tell you anymore, but it does exist, maybe somebody else knows it.

I used Basic Technical Mathematics with Calculus in our course, lots of technical problems and such. I thought it was a really well done textbook, and it includes an optional book with answers to every other odd question, including the work done.

Check it out here. The student solution manual I mentioned is just below it.

If you go to any major bookstore (Borders, Barnes & Noble), they'll have a huge variety of calculus texts. The best suggestion I can give is just look through a few and find one that suits your learning style. Which book are you using now?

I'm assuming you're talking about Calc 1?

I say get one of those manuals and also get yourself a real textbook. I suggest Wiley's '1-Var Calculus: 9th Edition by Salas, Hille, Etgen.' Covers everything up to and including infinite series. Great precalc review section and extremely (well, relative to other textbooks I've seen) well-done chapter on E-d limits.

I graduated with a major in Mathematics, started a career in graduate Math, and have taught a section of Calculus 3....by far the best text book I have ever used (problems, diagrams, pictures, solutions, etc) both learning and teaching was this one:

Calculus with Analytic Geometry - 6th Edition (Hardcover)
by Roland E. Larson, Robert P. Hostetler, Bruce H. Edwards

ISBN: 0395869749

It covers all the material of Calculus 1,2, and 3. If you never listen to me again, this book it completely worth acquiring somehow.

I also noticed that the 7th edition is out now (has even better reviews) and that the 8th was released Jan of this year or so...I don't have experience with these two editions, but they might be easier to acquire.

7th: ISBN: 0618239723
8th: ISBN: 061850298X

I had a bad book as well so I feel for you. I found this website exteremly helpful when I took cal I & II. It has discussions, flash presentations, problems w/ solutions, and the best part is it's FREE!!! Check it out: Visual Calculus
