What book should I recommend/buy for my gf?

She is not much of a reader and she hates sci fi/fantasy. I was thinking of getting her Flowers for Algernon or maybe The Phantom Toolbooth. What do you all think? Any recommendations from the female readers of this forum?

I really like Nicholas Sparks books. The aren't too long and a good read for a girl. Also, I really liked Tuesdays w/ Morrie. Another good book. However, if she doesn't read a lot, why buy her a book? (Just a thought)🙂

if she's not into books, start her off slow
go to the humor section and you might find something interesting there

"How to cook, clean and please your man: a 12-step program to help you become a good old-fashioned girl".

J/K. Ah, the good old days. A family could survive on one income and she stayed home and kept house. Heh-heh...flame bait or not...it's my opinion.

BTW, my GF doesn't cook/clean/do laundry unless she is starving, can't find her clothes in the mess or has no clean clothes to wear....let alone do any of those things for me.

But she doesn't smoke (can't stand it) doens't do drugs (won't stand for it) has no kids (I have one..I love him but children are evil) and has no cats (I'm allergic!) So, we are very happy together. Together, we are the odd couple. She's Oscar and I'm Felix. No "funny" comments. I'm male, she's female, ok? 🙂

Just read Tuesdays with Morrie and would recommend it. The author, a sports writer, visits his mentor (his old college professor) Morrie every Tuesday, who is dying of Lou Gehrig's disease. He writes about the experiences as taking a course from Morrie on life. A lot of good quotes.

If she's not much of a reader, then I'd skip the book, unless you really, really want her to read. For an occasional reader, you can't go wrong with books from the Oprah book club - they're usually trite, emotional "chick" books. I've never read one of them. 😀

I have read some of the books from Oprahs book club. Some of them are really good and some of them really suck. Plus, lots of them are pretty long. I would recommend Tuesdays with Morrie again. I must say, it is a book which is hard to put down and I most people who I have talked to who read it loved it. I don't think you can go wrong w/ it.

thanks for the recommendations we will be heading to barnes & nobles and I'll come back to tell you what i got her.
