I am in the market to get a new MB, I just had an Intel 975x BX2 board, and loved it. I don't know what speed difference between PCIe 1.0 and PCIe2.0 will be with a GF260/280 card?

What chipset do I go with, P35, P45, X48, X38. I will only run one Gfx card. I don't really like the cost of the DDR3 ram prices still. IIRC DDR2800 vs. DDR3 speed difference wasn't much...

Plus, what CPU to get a Q9550 or E8500/E8600. I will not be overclocking so keep that in mind.

Also whatever MB I get I want it to keep my fans QUIET, like the Intel 975x did....

Thanks

I tried a p45 board for a short time; I recommend a gigabyte model for $108 shipped at newegg. It should have cpu fan adjustments in the bios. I set mine to zero, and the fan turns at very low rpms, good enough unless you're overclocking. Some models have ddr2 and ddr3 slots. For the cpu, the e7200 at $120 might be all you need. I like the fry's combo deals with free ecs boards. The e8400 combo is only $160, and with the 7200 is 120. I found a 775 board for only $19.90 the other day at my local fry's to replace the p45 board that failed. It was the last one of a closeout special. Fry's.com had the 5600 amd retail boxed with 780g chipset board for only $69.99 a few days ago; that was a killer special. Fry's.com rarely has board and cpu specials; it's usually in store only.

Prob. wanna go with a p45 or X48 and get the pci-e 2.0 to get the full speed advantage out of the 260 gpu. For the cpu..I guess it is your call I would rather have the e8600 though.
