We try to play short board games here at work during lunch and recently we have been playing Bohnanza and Carcassonne.

We have a Axis and Allies Revised edition session scheduled for next weekend. It should lots of fun 🙂.

here are couple intresting websites if you wanna look at some new board games (not cookie cutter games)

game store.

review site.

Well I used to play Pearl Harbor when I was bored.

I'd just lay there and she would come along and BLOW THE HELL OUT ON ME! 😉

Carcassonne kinda got old quickly, but Bohnanza (aka The Bean Game) has been a mainstay at my family gatherings for many years now. It's almost maddening...for instance on Christmas, we'll come away with 2-3 new board games, but popular demand will have us trading beans anyway.

Some other mainstays/favorites of mine are:
Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit - When you step back and look at the big picture, it's a 3-hour die-rolling-fest. Yet everytime I've played it, it's been a nailbiter right up to the final die roll.

Settlers Of Catan: You've probably played this.

Citadels/Ohne Furcht Und Adel

Where's Bob's Hat: Trick taking card game.

Tichu: Another trick taking card game.

San Marco: I just love this game. It's rather abstract.

Call My Bluff

Acquire: The old school stock game

Cosmic Encounter

The Lord Of The Rings: Not the one based on the movie, but the cooperative game. The co-op element is very refreshing. It's fascinating to play a game where instead of trying to screw the other players, you're trying to help them. The expansions do a lot to ruin this game.

Time's Up: Kinda like charades

Age Of Renaissance: I seem to be in the minority for not being a fan of this 6-8 hour exploratory epic. Give it a try on a rainy Saturday. Have lots of beer and snack foods on hand. Don't start past 8PM unless you like pulling all-nighters.

Scrabble! But now that the wife and I have it installed on our laptops, playing eachother wirelessly is more fun than using the board. No tiles to clean up, or that tedious addition.

those 2 sites are awesome. Some of the games are unheard of in US but are big hits in others parts of the world so they might be worth looking at. Most of the games are rated and have descriptions on the review site 🙂.

If I had a working Dark Tower set, I wouldn't actually play it 😀

Why not??!! We are very careful with it!!!! It brings back such memories (I got one for Christmas back in 1981!) The cool thing is that the two guys from my High school AD&D gaming club are the ones that I still play it with. How cool is it (or geeky(!)) to have three friends in their mid-30s that have known each other since age 6 still in the same geographic area and gaming together!

It's too valuable. Working sets are selling for around $100 and will probably only go up even more.

I play online instead 🙂

Clue. Last week I played with 3 of my friends, the first game lasting 2 min and the 2nd game lasting under a minute.

Somehow it has lost its charm 😕

monopoly, stratego, chess, checkers

surprised no one mentioned DIPLOMACY yet. so much better than that risk bullshit.
