Dark Knight!

i bought it...... it's sweet. filmed in IMAX too...... looks and sounds great with a 5.1 setup.

Iron Man is good too

The Dark Knight is retarded how it switches from full screen in some scenes to non-full screen in others.

Those "full screen" scenes were the Imax scenes. Better some than none at all.

I am aware of that, but it is assinine how it switches back and forth. Quite annoying as well.

Looking at comments from "Constant Image Height" projector folks, you'd think that having the switching of aspect ratios was the end of the world.

People with masking systems (like me) or people with CIH setups are left in a tough spot about how to show the movie.

It is weird, I noticed it too.

I would like to take this time to say Dark Knight is an excellent demo for blu-ray.
Also, if I ever get a BD drive I would love to be able to take images from that movie for use as wallpaper. Does anyone know if thats possible in Vista or Win 7 with Media Player or VLC? Or does the stupid DRM bullshit prevent me from doing that?

Interesting how many of the "best" bluray discs in the link are animated.

I went to Blockbuster and got Live Free or Die Hard. It was on the list of best, and it was something I wanted to see.

Now I sit by the window waiting for the UPS guy.

Transformers 2 (Wal-Mart's Big Screen Edition with the IMAX footage)
Iron Man
The Dark Knight
Any of the Pixar movies.

Wall-E
Coraline if you liked James & the Giant Peach or Nightmare Before Christmas (Henry Sellick stop-motion animation)
The Fountain
Curse of the Golden Flower

Get Netflix so you don't need to buy blu-rays.

Monsoon Wedding. Fuck all these baysplosion junk movies others have recommended. Who cares if it's pretty if it's inane and vacuous? Get pretty and awesome.

The one with the IMAX scenes is $34. I'll take the normal bluray for $20.

I second Coraline. It looks awesome.

Odd.... I wasn't annoyed at all...

Agreed.

Master and Commander & Braveheart are also good.

Braveheart, Iron Man...

Dark Knight is decent, but is not the best example of an HD transfer. The non-IMAX footage (80%+ of the film) is quite weak compared to other excellent transfers. The IMAX bits are great, of course, but if anything, their presence makes the rest of the sub-par PQ stick out even more.

OP should get Ironman or Braveheart.

Iron Man has weirdly inconsistent picture between beginning and end. It's never bad by any means, but it starts out pretty grainy. Haven't seen Braveheart on Blu-ray, but I've heard it looks pretty good.

grain = good.

LFDH is tits for audio. freaking tits I say.

The video is solid as well.

Also consider Galapagos--much better than Planet Earth overall.

I can't watch it if it intentionally assumes I'm an idiot.

Um, maybe for your digestive tract.

OMFG you agreed with me. I'm going to buy a cake!🙂

Either way, any suggestion is going to depend on what you like, visually, I think all blu-ray disks are so far ahead of DVD in video and sound quality you are going to be amazed.

Check out Iron Man. The desert in the begining will blow you away in 1080p. The whole movie looks great.

The Hulk. Man, it's just a masterpiece of lighting and effects.

10,000 bc , heck , even for kicks I got Journey to the Center of the Earth. I'm not a big Brandon Fraser fan, but 1080p 3d at home had to be checked out. Either way, Grats on your purchase!

guess you're not familiar with film, or picture quality. Grain = detail. When it's been brushed out you get soft, worthless images that look like dog shit.

See Patton on BD for example.

Your inability to distinguish between the two speaks volumes.
