What bloody tv to buy?

When it comes to LCDs, Sony, Samsung, and Sharp are head and shoulders above others.

Hmmm... it's a hard choice finding a good TV because deals are always changing.

Im surprised so many are reccommending the Westinghouse or Sceptre or Viewsonic over something that when I looked at it in person, looked so much better... that being the samsung. Maybe its an optical illusion and Im just drawn to the glossy border of the tv? lol.

What do you guys think of this tv?

Anyone had experiences with this brand? Think this is a good deal?

I'd like to look at this tv in person before I buy it but I have no clue what local retailer might have it.

I don't think you're going to beat this thing for price\performance. It does 1080p, and it's pretty big.

I have this TV myself, and it does indeed do 1080p, as well as lets my computer display at 1920 by 1080 at 60Hz. The image is so crisp that it's quite difficult to find any pixellation at all, even up close. I play Oblivion on this bad boy and it's really something else!

When I was shopping around, I didn't see ANY other 37" screens that did 1080p. But this was a year or two ago. The other screens only did 1080i or 720p, and offered max resolutions of 1366-ish by whatever.

I have heard most people say that 1080p doesn't really make a difference unless you have a TV that's 50" or bigger. I bought a 42" Westinghouse ($1500 at the time) a couple months ago that supports 1080p, but I haven't hooked up anything that outputs that besides using it as a computer monitor. Oblivion looks great at 1920x1080, but boy does it run choppy. The Westy has been great though, even with a couple remote control issues.

Ooh here's another option:

Emprex 37" LCD TV with 1080p upconversion for $899 + ship

Seems like a good price, and decent specs. Native 1080 resolution, 1080p upconversion, HDMI input along with VGA d-sub for hooking up a computer (though one thing to check is whether the PC input actually accepts 1920x1080--I've seen some Sony SXRD's that still limit the resolution of PC input!)

The only question I'd have is whether contrast/brightness measure up to the specs...walk into any TV store and you'll see that panels with identical specs don't always look identical.
