what bitrates do you use for portable mp3's?

this is for people that rip CDs... since downloaded ones all tend to be 128 kbps or 96 kbps. and i guess this isn't limited to mp3's. wma, ogg, whatever.

128 and 160 bit...you probably won't be able to hear the difference on the portable headphones...

For portables....128 VBR. I'm running, biking or on a plane while listening to them so higher bitrates are completely pointless.

when i rip from cd's i use 256cbr. (some are scratched, and i want to be sure they're good backups) in my mp3 player, i use those, along with the other random mp3s ranging from 128-192.

okay added 224. I didn't include it previously cuz I've never heard of that bitrate used by people. most commonly i've heard 128, 192, and 320

Lame VBR at 160 minimum... average bitrate changes based on the song. It's usually as good as 256 CBR.

EAC & lame let you do ...160,192,224,256,320

O and you can tell teh diff between 128 and 160 on my Grado Sr-80's

HD space is so cheap, and I don't have that many CDs, so I figure, why not? Since I just copy from my hard drive to my MP3 player, they are 320.
