What be the nature of this 3DMark 2001 error message.....?

Ok, I successfully overclocked my Athlon from 1.33 GHz to 10x150MHz. To test stability I've done a number of things, such as let it generate fractals for 12 hours straight, run through the DroneZ benchmark, 3DMark2K, and also play some games (Red Faction, Max Payne, Baldur's Gate II, etc.) all work fine and my CPU temps are 38ºC idle and 42º full load (fractal crunching). The only thing that doesn't want to work is 3DMark2K1. The first couple times I tried to run it, it froze solid after about 10 seconds of the first demo; I would be forced to reset my computer. I tried it again just now, and after about 5 seconds of the first demo, it crashed to the desktop with this message:

"3DMark could not initialize your 3D accelerator. Try to downgrade your display settings.

DirectX Error Message:
DirectX allows only 65536 vertices per primitive."

Eh? I'm not overclocking my Radeon DDR SE at all, and I'm not using any tweaks (just the official 7075 drivers with the same settings I always use). Any ideas on what went wrong and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

just one question: if its stable in everything else, why worry about a synthetic benchmark?

Have you tried selecting a lower resolution?

I'm not really worried about my score or anything; it's just that it's something that worked before, and it doesn't work at all now and I'm naturally paranoid so the error message worries me.
