What Battlefield 1942 mods have you tried?

Desert Combat...

Was fun at first with all the toys. They really speed up the game, but the developers threw balance out the window, so it gets stupid after a while. I'm looking forward to Eve of Destruction next.

Most don't. It's just their hobby/do it in their spare time.

If I remember correctly, the people who developed Counter-Strike now work for Valve. They are the exception rather than the rule.

They are what people who do mods strive for, but will probably never be. 🙂

I know this is OT but, how do the people that make these mods profit from them?

Well technically they develop an original idea to use the Games engine for, then develope it themselves and hope its good enough to gather a large enough following to garner the game companies support. The people who made Counter Strike and Day of Defeat have both been picked up by Valve.

There is a G.I.*JOE mod out for BF 1942 it's a little buggy right now and they only have the vehicles and some sounds up but they are working to put in JOE and COBRA skins in.
 
What do these mods do? Can you still play the normal game? Do the mods make BF1942 a completely different game? confused

If you look on the right side of your internet multiplayer game page where you see all the servers listed you'll see a custom game section... that's where the mods show up. You pick one from the list and it shows you all the servers for that mod. You can still play regular BF if you'd like.
DC .3 should be good... probably be out sometime later this month/early April.
DC itself puts in all new vehicles and weapons as well as skins and adventually the whole classes scheme is going to be redone... that might be included in .3. I know .3 will have atleast 10 more vehicles then .25c has. 😉

thanks, i was just thinking that a mod for bf1942 would be excellent. i really love the gameplay, but new equipment would be nice. thanks for bringing this up. will desert combat work on 1.31?
 
Ive only played desert combat as well. The blackhawk down mod looks really cool. For DC mod they have the mod for Road to Rome and the original game. The only new map for it that i have tried it iraq, its cool, but the maps that they already have are really fun!

Where do you see that Battlefield 1942 is $19.42? GoGamer lists it at $37.90, which is the cheapest that I've seen it but still not $19.42

I was able to get it on ebay the other day for 33 bucks 🙂 sealed new 😀 w00t
