I recently bought a replacement WD My Book extermal 4TB drive and I was surplised to see that the original WD Backup software is no longer offered or supported. The Acronis True Image version is available with the drive with a 5 year license...and after that I guess they think that it will be time to buy a new drive?
I installed the Acronis True Image... but the first attempt at back up resulted in the blue screen - Your device ran into a problem etc. Stop Code UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP and afer a few more tries it was obvious that it wasn't going to happen. The Acronis Knowledge Base shows a similar problem with Acronis Agent - OS crash is happening due to an issue of Microsoft Windows (classified by Microsoft as bug 11587461). With a solution being - The issue has been fixed in KB4025342 (OS Build 15063.483) update. But it certainly didn't work for me. Does anyone have any ideas how it would be possible to continue with Acronis True Image, and if not - is it now possible to use other third-party software with the WD My Book seeing as the stock WD software has now been dropped - leaving the Acronis as the only alternative being suggested by WD
Many thanks

If it's recognised as a USB mass storage device (ie. you plug it in to a Windows/Mac/Linux box and it more or less immediately offers you access to the storage), then you can use any backup software you like basically.

What kind of backup would you like?

How much data do you have to back up?

hi again Mikey
looking for an incramental backup...only about 3TB data on the My Book Drive. My last WD My Book contained a WD Red SATA disk with a PCB fitted to it for the power and USB connection...but it prevented the use of any software other than the now discontinued WD Backup. They now have linked-up with Acronis - so I don't know if other TP software is blocked too?
