Does a vehicle exist that is AWD or at least 4WD that gets 30+ MPG?

If I'm not mistaken, a used Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix runs 26/31 with AWD and the 1.8L.

Never researched it, but I'd guess one of the Subaru Impreza-based models ... I used to average mid/high 20's in my old Outback Sport.

If you're not talking new, the Subaru Justy ECVT would be the thing that pops to mind first (did that one make it to the USA?)

There's tons of little AWD vehicles in Asian, too bad more don't make it over to NA.

Rav4's get good mileage. I'd also look at Subaru's, I think they get 28+ mpg. The CR-V gets around 25+ mpg.

Why exactly do you want an econobox with AWD? Just get an enconobox with Snow tires if you are worried about traction in the snow.

I have been looking at the SX4 for a long time now, it looks to be a great car. So far it's the only car I know of that lets you have AWD and 5 speed for under 17K. I drove the auto version and it lacks a bit of pep when starting out, but gives you good power for passing when moving. Some say the 5 speed helps give it more kick off the line. 23/28MPG isn't the best but you are getting AWD and a O.K amount of HP. Nice ride and enough room for a 6'1 guy to be comfy.

Only thing that is keeping me from getting one is the fact Suzuki isn't know for reliability, my Aerio is a POS. But to be fair, I believe the Aerio engine was made in Korea while the SX4 is a all Japanese car.

I know a Legacy isn't an econobox, but those can be had rather cheap for the nonturbo special editions...with the current rebate the 06's can be had for like $17k or so...

at this price range, if it lasts 5 years i am happy!!!

I used to recommend the Aerio .. it is a good car, and now i like the SX4. If i get posted in a snow area after i graduate i am buying an SX4 sport.

My legacy 2.5i gets 24/30. The imprezas are rated at 24/28 I think.

The Rav4 4cyl 2wd gets 30 highway, so the 4wd version is less then that. The Rav4 is a little expensive to be an econobox.

Best bet is the Vibe/Matrix awd. Might be cheaper to find a well maintained used volvo or subaru.
