I don?t eat as much fruit and veg as I would like, thus not receiving my basic RDA of vitamins.

Should I just force myself to eat a wider variety of fruit and veg?

- and like insurance 'too much' is also *Bad* :p

and not all vitamin supplements are created equal

I've seen no valid study showing expensive boutique vitamins are better than name brand, mainstream multivitamins.

Anyone have one?

A multi-vitamin/mineral supplement is probably a good idea, but supplements that claim to do anything (lose weight, relieve stress, grow a third arm) are junk in my eyes.

what do you call a *valid study* ... the FDA approved Vitamin Co manufacturer's "study"?

if i remember your views from before, i don't think God could set up a valid enough study for you :p

and there are *many factors* ... one of them being how well your body absorbs them ... which can vary from individual to individual even among a totally healthy population

Food sources are *best*

If I were, is that the sort of tablets I should be looking for?

stone tablets :p

:D

many magnesium supplements are derived from limestone ... how well do you think that is absorbed?

and seriously ... what 'works' for you

if you don' feel any better over time then you probably don't *need* it

Not true at all. I just have yet to see a valid peer reviewed and repeated study on vitamin suppliments. I'm not saying thay do not exist, I am claiming ignoance.

And it is true, as with all medications and supplements, the only way to judge true effectiveness is through double blind studies that can and are repeated independently.

Tablets, pills - same thing ;)

I think I might have a look in one of the local health shops near me, and see what they have to offer.

i am *done* debating with you Amused... deja vu ... i will just agree to disagree with you.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/drug-information/DR202644
just a little info available on magnesium

there are many *forms* so as to be Bio-available to individuals with different needs

even injectable

if is it not absorbed or used by the body then the supplement is useless
Notes

This information applies to the following:
1. Magnesium Chloride
2. Magnesium Citrate
3. Magnesium Gluceptate
4. Magnesium Gluconate
5. Magnesium Hydroxide
6. Magnesium Lactate
7. Magnesium Oxide
8. Magnesium Pidolate
9. Magnesium Sulfate

Drug Information provided by: Micromedex

then there are the *food grown* vitamins which are USP vitamins fermented in a yeast matrix to more closely resemble "food"
:Q

screw double blind ... they won't even test most of the products ... or need millions of dollars to do so.

most vitamin/mineral supplements are "wide spectrum" MDR so as to 'work' for most people

try the smallest bottle ;)

WTF???

I'm not debating. I asked a valid question and you attacked me.

Please explain what is wrong with asking for valid scientific proof of something?

I started taking one ever since I started going to the gym.

Needless to say, I feel better, but I have no idea how much, if any, the multi-vitamin is helping.

because i *know* you and your "innocent" MO
:Q

i am not *new* here

and i did not attack you .... it was a 'kid' ... hence the ':p' .. . respecting our many [many] "past" intersections here.

i am done debating with you and i will NOT be lured back into an endless discussion ... i already know your views ... have you forgotten mine?

i just posted my personal experience and my advice to the OP - to 'try' different formulations and save money by trying the smallest

that's 'all'

no harm meant ... no foul

OK, but my question still stands. I'm not debating anything.

All I'm asking for is valid medical trials with vitamin supplements. I'm sure there are quite a few people with more knowledge in this area than me.

What kind of medical trials do you need? There are countless medical conditions that result in malnutrition, and supplements of some form are absolutely necessary. This could be anything from inflammatory bowel diseases, anemia, Celiac's disease (sometimes related), fructose intolerance, etc. etc.

That said, I do think there is a serious misconception about nutrition in America; I can't speak for other countries. The notion that everyone should supplement is more about successful marketing than successful science, imo.

Just about ANY kind. I see very little valid medical studies done on supplements, especially among different brands.

Yes, I know what vitamin supplements are for, and in most cases they are only useful in treating deficiencies. I'm just curious if anyone has done valid work on which brands work, and which ones do not. I have seen LOTS of pseudo science from boutique vitamin makers and holistic hippies, but nothing scientifically valid.

not yet ;)

but i will let *them* post the links instead of me
--they can be savaged by your biting wit and sharp humor :)
... i just wanted to demonstrate from my Mayo Clinic link that there are MANY form of just one mineral ... obviously some forms work better for some people than others ;)

and that *variability* among even a "healthy population" is enough to complicate medical studies that would be valid to you

asking someone *how they feel* is also nebulous in a comparison double blind study

and measuring blood levels of the vitamin/mineral may not indicate enough either nor correlate to "health"

carry on without me ... i wish you well :)

aloha

i'm back to Video ... now that's *exciting*...
you DO know that x2800xtx [r600] is indefinitely postponed [well, "q2"] due to NOT being *competitive* with nvidia's 8800GTX ?
!!!
:Q

and i recently gave up my x1950p for a 7800GS OC by nvidia :p

the ati boys are calling me a *traitor* ... the new Rollo
:disgust:

nothing really new ...
