It's funny, almost seems that more harm is done by attempts to prevent it than by piracy in the first place. From game makers requiring the inconvenience of having the CD in the drive to play (which can also lead to scratching) to the RIAA and MPAA implementing copy protection on CDs & DVDs which prevent you from making the backup copy entitled to you by law, it's almost as if they're trying to encourage piracy - going by the book is becoming more & more inconvenient.

I really do not care if someone pirates. I hate when people say things like "You are stealing and costing soandso's company money". I do not belive this for one second. If I made a copy of something and gave it to a friend, the company did not pay for the cd that I payed for. Im not going to go out and purchased a program for over a grand just to use it a few time's for a specific purpose. People are going to buy the program's still reguardless if people pirate it or not.

Same goes for the music industry. They play music on the radio all day long to me free of charge. But if I put it on a cd and listen to it, I should have to pay?

Here is what I do. I DO download things. If I like a program, then yes I will go out and purchase it, I do this all the time with pc game's ect ect.

Many people would be more willing to talk about this stuff privately. You know the MLA citation for interviews? Use that and open up the PMs/IMs.

I know I would be.

YARRRRR!!

The term "piracy" is horrible... IMO, sharing music over a free p2p system for your own personal listening is not wrong. However, using someone else's copyrighted work without their permission for personal financial gain IS wrong (i.e. copying CDs, and selling them for profit).

Why don't people steal? Generally because they are afraid of getting caught or of the reprecusions of getting caught.

Why do people steal software? Because there is little proof that they will be caught and if they are, that anything will be done about it.

As well, people aren't stealing anything tangable so there isn't the guilt of looking down at the object that you stole.

Piracy is very bad...BUT...necessary so one day compagnies will wake up and realise that sometime the price they charge for music/games is too high.

The next wave of games is expected to be higher in price....go figure...Why 60-70 buck for a games??? Christ wanna sell millions sell it at 20 bucks....

agreed, although if a majority of a CD is good ill go out and bye it

but i do urge people to BUY there OS (if its gonna be windows or somthing not free based)

pirating lets people listen to stuff before they buy, there for when they get the actual CD they are a happy customer rather than being pissed and never buying from that artists again

i also think that the IRAA has gone WAY over board

they'll never stop it, even if ALL the P2P programs do ge shut down for good

people still have AIM and it has a file transfer feature, just get better chat rooms with less bots and bam you have people trading again

i do look down some what on people that get EVERYTHING from pirating, especially if they complain that it doesn't work right or something like that (i don't really care about a little here and there)

pirates are dumb and probably gay too. i mean really, they're all on the same ship for months. you know some of them are taking it itb.

i have no objections to copyright infringement, however. infringe ip all you want, it doesn't make baby jesus cry.

To me it's one of those areas that is just impossible to police. The 'pirates' always seem to be one step ahead of the enforcement agencies. That, and the technology inherent in such activity (be it the media being pirated or the methods of piracy) is by definition 'new', so by the time bureaucratic agencies find out what is going on, it's already "old hat" to the pirates. Maybe there's something to be said about the average age difference of pirates and those on the other side of the fence. While the pirates seem to effortlessly adapt to new methods and media, the enforcement agencies / regulatory bodies are still attempting to decipher and swim through yesterday's piracy methods and modes of operation.

Perhaps eventually all media will be generically branded by an uber-regulatory body and it will be impossible for the "pirates" to continue their trade. Who knows what is in the works? Intellectual property rights will eventually be recognized to be on par with the rest of a person's property. We're lucky (or unlucky, depending on who you're rooting for) to live in a time where intellectual property laws are not concrete, or are fledgling at best.

I am opposed to all pirates period! It is illegal, unethical and down right rude to be honest.Dirty fvckers need to burn in heck.. I mean stealing boats is one thing but wearing an eye patch and saying "arg" all the time is just stupid.. .. ..

Software piracy now that is a diff. story all together. I will pay for a useful program if it is priced for its function however music and games are to me over priced for what you get. MMORPG's for example are usually 50 bucks when they come out and then x.xx amount every month thats BS.. ..it should be way cheaper for the initial cost. Music I dont mind paying a small monthly fee for unlimited downloads if anything I were looking for was available there and the speeds were screamin.Till that happens they are gonna keep wasting money fending off p2p.. for evey IT guy working to secure songs/movies theres prolly 100 college students working to hand them out free.. ..

There's corruption on both sides. These companies rape people's computers with ads and spyware, and charge too much money. Why does the RIAA deserve so much money. They didn't do anything really, yet they seem to suck so much money out of it.

Piracy still isn't the answer. But going after college students that are trying to start a future? That's not right either. Yet we allow credit card companies spam them in an attempt to put them into debt for life.

I'm not buying any movies until Blue Ray comes out. I'm not buying any music until the CD is replaced.

Until every piece of software comes with a "100% satisfaction" guarantee, I don't care either way.
