Right on. Don't stress yourself out over that stuff. I used to allow that to happen and it made the holidays more drudgery than enjoyment.

Any opinions on the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuit mix? My wife says we made them once and really liked them. But I don't remember it. She bought a box and I thought I might try them for turkey day if none of you warm me off.

I mean they're pretty universally loved even by people who hate the restaurant.

Personally I find the boxed baking mixes too salty in general. If you don't, they're great. If you're me, then making biscuits from scratch is pretty easy and you can mix extra butter/garlic/seasoning/cheese to the batter to get a reasonable facsimile of the Red Lobster biscuit without all the salt.

Gone are the days of trying to satisfy both sides of the family. Especially with the in-laws really showing their ass these last few months.
Ohman… my wife and her sister have started feuding over the holidays! Specifically, who is hosting and who is attending.

Her sister's son and his wife had their first child two years ago. Now it's a Facebook fight as to who sends out their invites for holiday, birthday, anniversary get togethers first.

So fucking stoopit! I don’t say shit out loud about it though. lmfao

My wife and her sister came to an agreement that we do Thanksgiving and her sister does Christmas (which they do on Christmas Eve). Even when her sister lived in an apartment with room for 12 people and 14 people would be there. Finally they got a house and it is better now. Then there was Christmas two years ago when the dog died and we all pretended there was not a dead dog in the other room.

Mrs says we liked them, and as you guys also say they are okay, I'll give them a go.

There have been holidays where I wanted to be that dog.

Big clown show at the inlaws. Going to be the works, my parents driving in, sister flying in, wife's brother and gf driving in, aunts, uncles, grandmas. Full house.

Going to be a fun one too cause we got a pretty good mix of Trumpers and Normies.

Talk politics and be the bomb thrower you always wanted to be.

- I don't see how politics isn't going to come up, so I might as well force the issue.

Figure my angle will be less hostile and more "make your predictions for the next 4 years on things like Ukraine/Israel/inflation/unemployment/Social Security/generalized government dysfunction/etc etc etc" and see if I can get some commits from the true believers.

Would make for a more productive Thanksgiving politics discussion than everyone trying to change everyone else's minds. Can revisit on the yearly to see where the predictions are at as well.

I'm making turkey wild rice soup, with homemade sourdough bread. I smoked a turkey a few weeks ago and saved 3 pounds of chunks. We have caramel apple pie from the local orchard, and wine. It's just her and I and the dogs, we are doing a 90 minute trail run before I start the soup. I'm installing an nvme ssd in my spare gamer for storage today, it's a pain because the GPU has to come out etc. so it's almost major surgery. We were going to her families, but they are on the other side of the political spectrum, and we don't want to drive 3 hours each way to listen to them. Her sister always asks for money anyway, so we're saving more by not going.

Yeah, happy Thanksgiving everyone. Hope you are all having a perfect day. I played Stalker 2 for 8hrs, now I'll goof off with the Mrs. No get togethers this year. Obligation free = hell yeah. I cooked yesterday so it's heat and eat today. Those cheddar bay biscuits get a 👍because they are as low effort as it gets without buying premade. Shredded some extra sharp Cabot for them.

I don't watch sportsball anymore, but watch highlights on youtube sometimes. If Pitt or Tampa don't go, I will pull for the Lions. That team has been cursed forever, it'd be cool to see them get a ring and redeem all those lifelong fans that have suffered endlessly. My other favorite team is whoever is playing the cowgirls.

We are going to have about 15 people over at our place. My wife likes to cook the turkey. I move tables around and finish clean and watch football. I like to be home for the holidays so it works out.

Funny thing is, we live in an area where they shut off the power when when the Santa Ana winds blow (High dry winds in SoCal). I have always said they seem to blow at Thanksgiving and two years in a row our power was shut off but we still had it here. We got a whole house generator last year and of course our power was fine during Thanksgiving.
I bought a small-ish generator and pass-through outlet 3 years ago. Best “keep the power turned on” insurance ever. Since I bought it, I’ve used it 3 times, longest was about 3 hours…before I bought it, we’d get 3-4 every year that lasted several hours.
We're establishing a new tradition and going to a Korean restaurant for the second Thanksgiving in a row.
I live next door to the family that owns the only Chinese restaurant in Ocean Shores. They close for Thanksgiving and Christmas…which is fine with me because their food is so bad.

Since you mention it... My daughter's made a pumpkin spice dip a few times, and may be making it again. The julknäcke would be a good accompaniment for that. I might take a pack up with me.
