What are your opinions on RainX?

I was going to apply it to my new car windshield, but after reading about the "film" it can leave, I'm debating against it.

What are your opinions? And have any of you tried Aquapel? And if so, where can you buy it in the states at a B&M store?

RainX is good, but you gotta keep applying it consistently... the only downside is that it tends to contaminate the rubber wiper blades - so they don't work too well if you do need to use them...

The windshield treatment is great, even for heavy rain, their wipers are crap, after a year of suffering with a huge schmere in front of my face, and blaming the replacement windshield I finally got new wiper blades, and have a perfectly clear windshield again.

I used it many years ago, and it's really neat to see it work. The windshield becomes so frictionless against water, you can take a turn and the water will just roll off the side of the windshield. Same for braking, it just rolls off the front.

Consider Unelco's Glass Scrub to clean your autoglass and then this:

Glass Clear

... to keep them clear during inclement weather. These are both available (cheaply) at my local WalMart.

I pulled the trigger on a couple of Aquapels from Amazon... we'll see how well they work :)

Rain-X sucks. Totally overrated product.

The halos it makes for night driving are not worth any benefit

I remember once at walmart I got the rain-x product or similar product in my windshield wiper fluid. It was actually pretty nice. Whenever it rained I was just squirt a little on my windshield and the rain would just bead off. It only cost a dollar or so more then regular windshield wiper fluid. It's an Orange liquid

never noticed those...are you buffing it off fully?

The worst thing with RainX is some cars will get chattery wipers.

My nissan is not affected, but my wifes saturn is. We are both using the same wipers (Anco AeroVantage).

Still RainX gives a WAY better field of vision in a storm than even the best wipers can.

Something like a rail of compressed air would probably be better than wipers today, but I am not sure if compressor technology would be quiet enough/compact enough for it.

I had PIAA Super Silicone Wipers on my last car...basically reapplies a Rain-X type product to the windshield every wiper pass. Best wipers I have ever owned. No need to reapply. I had them for at least 18 months before I got rid of the car and they still worked perfectly.

My dad swears by the stuff, but personally I'd rather just have a decent set of wipers and a reliable motor for them.

I used it on my Integras and still think it is one of the few gimmicky products to live up to the hype. You have to make sure to apply it right or you will get:

I don't know if it was how the windshields were raked or what, but even speeds around 30mph would make the droplets fly away. I hardly ever used my wipers on them so, the wipers wearing the RainX down didn't seem too happen much. A shame because I had some really nice Bosch wipers.

I use RainX... I like it because I really don't need to use the wipers at any speed above 30 mph.

I really like Rain-X, but it is crucial to buff it out properly, or it will leave a hazy glaze and make a lot of glare.

I will have to try Aquapel next.

Hasn't anyone tried just WAXING their windshield? I've been doing it for years.
