Just got my Nexus yesterday. This phone represents something like a 10 year leap forward for me in terms of phone technology.

So far I've installed IPSC Shot Timer because it beats the hell out of dropping 100 bucks on one and Stopwatch & Timer because I needed a timer for brewing my tea.

So what does everyone think are some of the "must have" apps. I realize that list would be very user specific but what the hell....

I'm going to lock the thread at the OP's suggestion. The OP requested deletion, but there's some other posts, so I'll go for a lock.

Start with rooting it and putting Cyanogenmod 7 on there. There is some good stuff built in that I would consider Top x app type material.

Get the Amazon Appstore as well, they giveaway a paid app everyday

Maybe you mis-read the OP's statement, but he either didn't own a smartphone before, or he didn't own Android. Don't you think telling a first-timer to install unsupported software and void his warranty is a bit much? I do agree with your second point - Amazon's a great place to pick up apps, but just keep in mind they're usually not updated very fast.

I would say set up your music account at music.google.com by uploading all your songs, and start streaming it to your Android device. It's nice never having to plug your phone into your computer to transfer songs.

he has a Galaxy Nexus, CyanogenMod 7 is Gingerbread based an a massive downgrade compared to what he has now.

Do NOT do this. The stock OS already on your phone is much better than Cyanogenmod 7.

Definitely get MXVideo player. It completely hides the navigation buttons so you get a very nice sized full screen picture.

I use Sportstap for scores, although there's also Sportacular.

Google gesture search is a neat tool to have. Gives you quick access to contacts/music/apps on your phone by drawing letters.
