What are your considerations when moving from LGA 775 to 1366?

I just put together a system with a PQ5 Pro/Q6600 in an Antec 902 case. I would've opted for an x58/i7 but it would've cost me hundreds more and I don't need that power just yet. I think I'll upgrade towards the end of the year.

Now, I haven't purchased a HSF for it yet. I was hoping to get one that's good for both 775 and 1366. If I understand correctly, many of the HDT coolers don't make contact with the CPU completely? I started looking at Xigmatek and OCZ heatsinks but then got interested in the Thermalright and Prolimatech offerings. I figure these last two are better for both 775 and 1366 usage.

What do you think?

Seeing as most of the coolers floating around are still "designed" for socket 775 and the smaller die size of the Core 2s, I'd personally find reviews for 1366 coolers, then choose the best cooler from the review that works on both 1366 and 775.

It sounds a little backwards, but it makes sense to me. IMO, the chances of a cooler not working as well with a processor newer than what they were designed for (due to unforseen changes, like the die size) are lower than the chances of a cooler not working well with a processor older than what they were designed for.

Yea i just ordered a Megahalems for my Q9650. the lapped TRUE my buddy has on his 920 is a beast though, and since the megahalems has nearly identical performance and i ordered push/pull low speed yates for it should get some really good performance with hardly any noise addition. my only concern is if it's tall enough to fit over the northbridge cooler on my UD3P. i cant remember, but im pretty sure we faced the TRUE in his case toward the back outtake fan, and he has a UD5 which has basically the same amount of clearance around the CPU as the UD3P does. i will have to call him up and check
