My stock tbird 1.333 (with stock fan) runs as low as 20c case and 30c CPU, but after weeks of usage I'd say it's *usually* at 24-26c case and 35-45c CPU. Pretty cool I think! :)

When I first ran the XP 1600 which was in our basement, it was at something insane like 16c case and 20c cpu... I was like... :Q

So, let's have it, how hot are your parts? :Q

That's cool, not too bad. I run my case open though... cause I don't have a case fan. The only fan I have is on my CPU. So I think it's pretty logical to run it with the case open for best airflow. I don't think I've ever seen my cpu go higher than 46c.

P3 700@900 with just the retail fan it came with. Sandra 2002 shows the board temp to be 23.7 and the cpu to be 34.6-42c when playing games. computer case is one of those ultra average quality cases called "super cases" ewwww! this temp rises in the summer and get cool in the winter, since my room is as hot as the outside temp or as cold, often my room temp is 40 degrees in the morning during winter because we have no heater, but it's ok, I use my monitor's warm air as a heater.

Case temperature is at 19.1C, CPU is 20.9C presently when just doing basic web surfing so it's pretty much idle.
After prolonged 100% processor utlilzation my processor temps hit about 25-26C.
This is with a PIII 866 @ 1157.

I'd say I have little need to worry much about my temps :)

hey RSI, check tweak3d and look for their KT266a/kt266/kt133a idling stuff. involves setting registers on the mobo to turn on AMD chip functions that VIA didnt include in the bios. some report the idle cpu temps as low as 16. crazy. it didnt do anything for mine, but most people report a 5-10c drop in idle cpu temps (and about a half a degree for full load).

I'm not using a VIA mobo. Why does everyone automatically assume that everybody in the world has a VIA chipset (and then I hear ppl bashing them..)?

Because VIA chipsets are like hookers: there's tons of them and they suck, cheaply.
The AMD CPUs are just the pimps. Flashy, fast, pimps.

duron 750@750, superorb w/ fans taken out, and a generic fan strapped on the bottom of it blowing up, and another generic fan right above that in the PSU sucking upwards, case is all open, only metal, no plastic panels, and no other case fans, and the case temp is 31, cpu is 38.

hey all, i have some interesting insight into this.
first, have any of you read the AMD athlon XP whitepaper? they say that operating the CPU up to 95 degrees celcius is acceptable! mine is between 50 and 60 C, but i don't care because i would rather have a quiet PC. (i run an athlon XP 1600+ on a crappy ECS K7s5a) it has never crashed. the other bit of info that you could glean from reading the whitepaper is that sudden, drastic temp changes are BAD for the processor. that is the reason i don't run Vcool. I think the best thing to do right now is get a Koolance case (prebuilt case w/ water block). it is really quiet, and keeps the processor nice and cool. unfortunately, i don't feel like blowing $200 on a case (i already bought an addtroics 7890a a couple of years ago). i just traded cases w/ my server, and put my PC in the 3890a. i got tired of having such a large case!

WOW man, I just tried that tweak3d and my idle CPU temp dropped 17 degrees, no joke, that is crazy...

but my sound is messed up for some odd reason, has anyone experienced this?

heh, i was just telling you to go look at the article :). the author reports as low as 16 on his board. didn't say ya had one, was just an article showin' off some temps, what ya were askin' fo.

The specs state an absolute maximum die temperature of 90C for the AthlonXP before the processor burns out, sustained temperatures about 70C are classified as dangerous if they peak beyond 80C.

<< other bit of info that you could glean from reading the whitepaper is that sudden, drastic temp changes are BAD for the processor. that is the reason i don't run Vcool. >>

Considerable temperature variances between idle and sustained load are never healthy for any processor, AMD specs ideally dictate a maximum of a 25C variance for the AthlonXP in it's currently available speed grades.
Having a very low idle temperature isnt always a good thing if it causes drastic temperature variances in a short period of time.

I can't wait for a mobo that has the ability to read the CPU temps from an XP core..

anywho, full load (ok, it's just seti@Home), and I run 39 C CPU, and 27 C case.. not too bad considering I'm running a Duron 750 @ 866mhz with 1.67 volts according to MBM5.

I wish I could get a PS with two fans like the enermax Power Supplies.. then I could correct the airflow in my case I think a little..

P4 1.7 on ASUS P4T-E. Worried its running too hot, but no one else in here is running a p4. CPU 57c, mobo 40c. Nothing special going on either, word processing, web browsing and morpheus. Anyone have any ideas? CPU got to 150F and the ASUS monitoring utility told me to shutdown immediately. Wasn't doing anything then either....:confused:

Room temp = 76.0 (F)

IDLE:
CPU = 49-50 (C)
MOBO = 30 (C)

FULL LOAD:
CPU = 54 (C)
MOBO = 31 (C)

SO YOUR telling me that you can't install 4n1 drivers? KT266A is the fastest AMD chipset and runs rock stable with 4n1's, how does this "suck"? Don't make comments if your an ignorant dumb@$$.

PIV 1.5 GHz (478) ALWAYS RUN UNDER FULL LOAD (seti)

A lot of heat comes from the fact that I have 3 Hard Drives always running (2 run a server RAID 0 array), 2 Sticks of RDRAM, an OCed Geforce2 Ti, ect, ect.

IDLE,
SYS: 30C
CPU: 35C
RAM: 30C

FULL LOAD,
SYS: 35-38C
CPU: 45-50C
RAM: 40-45 C
