i'd like to know your experiences with these 3 RAID options (i'm thinking of running RAID 0)

did you notice a significant increase in performance using RAID 0? ever crash?

things to keep in mind about me: i don't really have anything important, i already have wut is important to me backed up on DVDs

i was reading and i read that i could find the best stripe setting

If you go into XP disk defragmenter and click on Analyze for your array, it should return a value of the average file size.

Take this number, and divide it by 2 x # of harddrives in the array, then round DOWN to the nearest available stripe size you can choose.

Let's assume that the average file size on your harddrive is 512Kb.
Divide that by a factor of the above calculated number. In my case, I have 4 harddrives in my array, so I would choose 8.

So, 512Kb divided by 8 = 64K (the optimal stripe size for my average files).

Let's say you had 2 harddrives in the array, then using the above formula, you would choose 128K stripe size.
would this formula be right?

i would do duplicate for system(server) but normally u dont really need to do raid.

they dont crash that easily

use the search function. this has been beat to death...you are going to get a flame war

3 movies at a time, sounds like a netflix pirate....

I know many people that own hundreds of DVD's that they purchased and own legaly (heck we have at least 200 video's that were purchased RETAIL)

now.. on with the question..

64 is the most common and yes do a search. 🙂

I've been running a 0 RAID array of two, 36 BG Western Digital 10,000 rpm Raptors for almost 3 years now wothout a single drive related failure. I do pay attention to overall case cooling and have a stout power supply, but I've been told by the smart people around here that's had nothing to do with my good luck. 😉

3 just sounded weird to me as that is one of the netflix packages, why not 4 at a time?

yes i did edit my thread, but it was more of a statement that i would be using 3 burners (exactly why i editted it so ppl would stop, but we'll see if it does)

my question had nothing to do with burning but rather ur experiences/opinions on RAID 0/1

arghhh
