5.1 in the living room. tv speakers in the bedroom. probably will have a 7.1 in the basement media room

5.0 currently on the TV because my sub died years ago and i never bothered to replace it cause all it did was annoy people and shake stuff off shelves

2.1 on the comp

Surprised at all the subwoofer hate. You guys know that there's a volume knob on subwoofers, right?

I have a 5.1 setup in the livingroom and 4.1 in the computer room. As soon as I find a cheap promedia speaker and connect my computer speakers to my old receiver, I'll have a 5.1 setup in the computer room as well.

my case isnt hate its just that im lazy and cheap. Ill end up getting another one, most likely this fall when i plan on moving to a 7.1 system. but buying a standalone when ive been planning on upgrading for a while is a bit silly

2.0 right now.

Will probably get a sub in a couple months, and then maybe a center channel a couple months after that. Not going to bother with rear speakers. They'd be a PITA to mount and position properly in the room, and the receiver does a pretty spiffy job of surround sound with the 2 front speakers anyway.

5.1 in the Home Theater (movies and sports) and 3.1 in the living room (casual tv watching)

I guess if you count my bass shakers, it would be a 5.3 🙂

yes but theres little point to having one if you cant make it shake the walls

you could shake the walls if you wanted with midrange....you just have to turn it up.

The point of a sub is to have sound reproduction of the full spectrum. 20hz-20khz. Not so you can boost the lower frequencies ridiculously high

5.1 in the living room with the TV.

2.0 on the computer (go sick of shitty 5.1 computer sound systems, moved up to 5.25" drivers on the mains.)

ITA. Without a sub, you're likely to get no good sound below 60Hz even with floorstanders. Even the speakers that do go into the low range don't do as good of a job as a sub. With a sub you can get down to 20-30 Hz and take a huge load off of your speakers, which will make them sound better too.

Yep. I don't need loud bass. I just want clean, powerful reproduction of low frequency activity. A big, vented 15" subwoofer can do that without breaking a sweat. Midrange drivers simply are not able to reproduce that same time of extension at reasonable levels in a conventional speaker arrangement.

It says more about the quality of your home than the bass your sub is putting out...if your house has thick walls, they aren't gonna shake...unless your are running multiple 150lb+ subs...the remote on your coffee table might start dancing though.

I've got a 15" servo with a -6db point anechoic at 8.5hz...and I have it in a corner of a small office room...even at full blast the walls do not shake...it's called decent construction.

Why stop at 20hz ^^

Get a pair of servo subs or corner loaded SVS PB-13 Ultras...and you can get flat response down to 7-8hz...
