God really cares that you give up something for 40 days. Beings of infinite knowledge and power demand meaningless material sacrifices!!!

LOL, I love how hard it is for non-New Orleanians to remember when Lent is.

Anyways, as I always do, after recovering from Mardi Gras, I actually start my New Year's resolution for Lent. I'll be running regularly again...so I guess I'll be giving up sleeping past 6 am on weekdays? :p

I'm thinking about giving up liquor. But maybe I'll give up honey baked ham like I have the last two years.

Guys, I realize this is ATOT, but seriously can we cut down on the amount of "I don't care" "or "Not religious".

I'm giving up procrastination

ok, first off... for people saying that they dont care... fine :)
but just so you know, for catholics, its to show that we are thankful that jesus died for us and we are fasting as he did before his death.
And, at one time, it was expected we were to give something up, but modern catholics and preists now think its just as good to do something extra (volunteer, etc) instead.
Personally, i am going to give up complaining and make sure to be more appricative.

For those who wish to know, Lenten practices should involve prayer, fasting, and some form of almsgiving.

For me:
Prayer - Dedicate myself to 30 minutes of night prayer.
Fasting - No dessert, smaller meals, and other things here and there.
Almsgiving - Giving money to an orphanage in Guatemala instead of eating out and writing letters to people I've meant to keep up with (ie - friends I haven't spoken to in a long time, Grandparents, relatives, etc)
