What are you expected to tip when you have passes for free cover at a club?

I went to a club last night with passes that gave free cover. The girl shaked her tip jar like a bum would before she stamped our hands. I didn't know what to tip her so I gave her 5 bucks for $12 worth of cover (2x$6, me and my girlfriend). What would you do? A few bucks? A percentage? More than a few bucks?

Sometimes when you get tickets you get a free drink with your cover. What do you tip the bartender? The same you would if you had paid for the drink? Also, what if you asked for a glass of water or a free pop for being the DD?

$5 is fine for a free $12 cover....
as for free drinks, it usually depends on the place, if it's a small bar $1-2, if it's upscale club/bar $2-3 maybe 4..... u have to think of the tip as an investment for timelier service and possiblly stronger drinks.

Why the fvck would you tip someone who offers you no service? All she does is stamp your hand, she gets no tip. You might as well tip gas station attendents for turning on the pump when you give them your cash.

I wouldn't have tipped her anything.

As for a free drink with a ticket purchase...bartender will get the usual $1 per order.

I've entered clubs with free cover and not tipped before. I've also never tipped the hand-stamper girl. But this girl seemed very insistant and I hate looking cheap :p

I'm a bit out of practice, for my clubbing days have been over for about a decade, but I never tipped the person stamping my hand.

But always, ALWAYS, tip the bartender, free drink or not.

But i have NEVER tipped the hand stamper. I would also never do it. screw looking like a cheap skate.

But i always tip the barkeepers. The local place i go to there are times i will get drinks on the house. the barkeep will buy me a drink a night. But then again beer is like $1.50 and i tip a buck .

I wonder what that jar was really for. Tips, sure, but they couldn't possibly have been for the hand-stamper....they just...couldn't have. If they were, you got robbed.

Something equally lame is a tip jar for the person that takes my money at a 'fast' type restaurant (ie. not a burger joint, but a sandwich type place, and Chile Burrito here does it).
