I brought my wife to the ER around noon as she was having chest pains and difficulty breathing. After the quick tests to make sure it wasn't a heart attack we were admitted and proceeded to spend the next several hours sitting around waiting for various tests (Chest x-ray, CT scan) to be done before we found out she has a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in her right lung). So much for our weekend plans.

She seems to be doing well, except when the pain medication wears off. The room is pretty nice and actually the view outside isn't too shabby either. Internet connection leaves something to be desired however.

So I guess we will see......

Update:
Thanks for all the well wishes guys!

My wife was released today so that is a big plus. She's (obviously) doing much better. She'll be on blood thinners for 6-9 months and I have to give her 14 injections of the stuff over the next 7 days but at least shes out of the hospital.

And while we havent gotten the hospital bill yet, thank god we have good insurance. The insurance govered all but $30 of her $3500 in prescriptions!

Eh? Oh - we are in her overnight room now. It just took 6 (maybe it was 7. I don't remember) hours in the ER to get to this point.

Thanks for the well wishes guys

If you are at the UM hospitals you are probably in good hands. They kept my dad alive on a heart/lung bypass machine for almost a month.

His wife probably isn't at her most photogenic right now...give him a break.

BUT, :camera: of nurses? :D

Sounds like your wife is in good hands. Hope she pulls through ok.

Best wishes to her.

Oh man, hope she gets and feels better. Tell her ATOT sends love (hopefully that will make her smile or laugh, and not go "WTF is ATOT?").

I like the quotes in your sig, btw, especially the second one.

I have been there and done that.....not fun. In fact it is never fun being forced to deal with the fact that the woman you Love is gravely ill!!

Hang tough dude!

gotta love the ER

I went for a broken arm and was there for 5 hours. Clearly other emergencies take priority but the lack of staff and their casual disregard for how long you have to wait is annoying.

Good thing you caught it. That's no joking matter. Jeez. I hope all is okay. Let us know the outcome.

So glad she's doing better. That must be one huge sigh of relief you're breathing.

Chest pain + difficulty breathing = big red flags. Call 911 for an ambulance next time.

But glad she is doing well :)

Good to hear you caught the PE!!! That's some scary stuff. What risk factors did she have?

Well - to be honest we didn't think it would be anything that bad. The pain came on gradually over the course of 3 days so we didn't think it was a heart attack or anything. At the ripe old age of 26 I guess we didn't think it would be anything too serious.

Very few. Just birth control. She answered 'No' to everything else. The doctor said that this would be the first time he saw a blood clot caused by birth control without any other contributing facotr (IE smoking)

Guess we'll have to figure out something else
