What are the best (most stable, least crashes to the desktop) for a GTS-V? This is a new machine for one of my kids, config as follows:

Shuttle AI61 (AMD drivers installed)
AMD 900 T-Bird
256 mb ram, 2 matched sticks of kingston value
GTS-V (latest drivers, 28.32, from VisionTek site)
SB Live X-Gamer (drivers only installed)
no other cards (use external modem for downloads)
Win 98SE full, clean install, no problems

First game I tried was Battle for Naboo and it dropped to the desktop right after gameplay started.

Second one was Need for Speed, no problems

This setup replaces one where I was using a Diamond Viper II that I had tons of problems with. I had been trying, unsuccessfullly to get Battle Realms to work and their tech support said it never would with a Diamond or ATI card. They said that Nvidia was the best and most stable. Before I try Battle Realms (and his other favorites like AOE I & II, Starcraft, LOM, Magesty, and the like) I wanted to try and insure that I set up for the best odds of success this time. Thanks for the advice!

First thing if you try the Nvidia drivers ,remove the Leadtek drivers and any Leadtek driver software first,I`m using Nvidia 28.32 drivers in my Leadtek GF2 Ti card and they work great for me,however everybody will have different results with different drivers being everybody`s hardware is slightly different, anyway you can also try the Nvidia 23.12 WHQL drivers these are also good in my experience.

Nvidia drivers are what most people use, so you only need to try some different versions to find the best ones for your card.

Thanks!

Couple questions:

1. Is there any trick to reinstalling to an older driver set? Or can I just uninstall using the add remove, reboot and reset to Standard PCI VGA, reboot and then reinstall the new (or older as the case may be) drivers?

2. Does a WHQL driver designation insure stablility (all other issues being equal)?

Thanks again.

Regarding your first question that will work fine,(I actually never bother uninstalling my Nvidia drivers when upgrading to newer Nvidia drivers, this has always worked for me, but you should remove them if you want to be 100% safe and especially with different drivers like Leadtek to Nvidia and beta drivers)

Your second question on WHQL,

<< What is WHQL
The purpose of the Microsoft® Windows® Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL) is to ensure the compatibility of hardware with Microsoft Windows operating systems. WHQL provides test kits to qualify devices, systems and servers for the "Designed for Windows" logos and for inclusion on the Windows Hardware Compatibility List (HCL).

So really just means Microsoft have approved them, they may or may not work better then other Nvidia drivers, again it`s down to your PC and what drivers work best on your system.
