What are Walmart's high profit margin products?

i usually associate walmart with rzaor thin (.1%) profit on a item. but they make it up on volume.

Do they have any products which have a high profit margin?

Oh, accessories. My mistake. Yeah, the markup there is huge. At Best Buy we'd sell $30 'gold' USB cables. Look in the system for cost price...$2.

Yep....and since they buy in such large volumes, they have gotten with many manufacturers that produce goods to make "special" versions of the good that is very simliar but is cheaper in cost and value. Such as carpets...I know a carpet mill that makes many of the small carpets they sell at Walmart. Walmart has them make a separate line of them that are the same as the others that are sold to their competition, but have cheaper low quality dye put into the threads.

i worked with a company that got our products from the same guy who sold to walmart (things like bounce houses, trampolines), knowing how much it costs to make them and knowing what they sell them for.. things from china are real cheap folks, they make a big profit on everything.

Even when they bought from the U.S. it was the same.

I used to work for Cannon Mills (before Pillowtex) and all Wal-Mart sales were factory seconds. We would have thrown them away if Wal-Mart didn't buy it from us.

You need to differentiate between gross profit and net profit. Most items have a fairly high gross profit. The store buys them at 65 cents on the dollar, so the gross margin is high. But factor in rent, payroll, utilities, insurance, advertising, etc and most of that 35 cents gross profit on every dollar disappears leaving you with a net profit of under a penny. When a store is doing 2 million dollars a week you only need a small net margin to be very successful. You just need a fairly high gross margin to get there.

Really? They start people at $10/hr+benefits at the one near me. I was shocked to find out they pay so much. Fvck, some tech support jobs pay $10 with 0 benefits.

Oh, and the supermarkets ain't paying that to their service reps.

Come folks this is a NON-SKILL job and they can get Benifits.

I am thinking if you are working as a $9 an hour cashier and you are trying to raise a family on that perhaps you should take a look at the way you run your life as opposed to wal-marts health care plan

That's another aspect of Wal Mart's business model that pisses me off. Always surprises me how (usually) conservative supporters of Wal Mart don't take that into consideration.
