What are those symbols you can use before @ to block spam?

I remember reading in a thread at the now defunct NoWonder about a symbol or symbols that you could use before the @ to block all spam from an address. I keep getting this really disgusting spam from whatever at msn.com. It doesn't do any good to block acq1245qbt@msn.com because the next time it's from some other whatever @msn.com. Anyway, this thread I read said that you could put something right before the @ that would keep you from getting anything from the @msn.com. Does anyone know what it is?

Gyver, That sounds like a winner.

* Is used as a wild character in mIRC too.
