What are these white, mosquito like bugs?

I was grossed out this morning by noticing hundreds of small (mosquito sized) white bugs stuck to the shower curtain at my gym. They're flying bugs and seemed to swarm. I ran out and showered in another stall and complained to the management but, still, what the hell were they?

I didn't take a picture, I ran out of the shower clutching onto my towel...

Can mosquitos be white??? I'm used to the black variation here in NYC. The looked larval, almost.. except they flew.

Nope. They were small (the size of the head of a pin.. maybe a little bigger) and pure white/almost translucent.

Sounds like termites swarming. They'll do that in the Spring.

looks like either fungal gnats (eww) or white flies (eww)... Either one of those shouldn't be "growing" on a shower curtain in a gym - argh!
