In my C: root directory (where I have win2k on my machine)
are these directories:
FOUND.000
FOUND.001
FOUND.002
FOUND.003
etc etc.....

in these directories are these files:
FILE0000.CHK
FILE0001.CHK
FILE0002.CHK
and so on...

what are these????

and can i delete them? What do i do w/them?
thx.

most of the time you can delete those, if you didn't have any directories and/or files missing after the clean up.. but if you do, you'll need to go through those manually see if it's the stuffs that's been missing. but I'd say it's hard to recover data this way.. and if those has been sitting around more more then a few days, you can pretty much get rid of them since you don't notice anything different(meaning that there's nothing missing really.)

Yes. NTFS is MUCH more advanced than FAT32 and prevents all this corruption which is common on FAT32 partitions. It's a tad slower (virtually unnoticeable) but definately worth it.

If I'm not mistaken, if you are running on FAT instead of NTFS you can't use some functions of being a Domain Controller and definately can't run Active Directory. This only applies to the server family of W2K

if i convert to NTFS i cannot convert back to fat32 unless u format my drive, right?

and i cannot set a dual boot system either, right? i am running win2k pro by itself right now, but i may run windowsME in the future.

so u guys think i should convert my drive to ntfs? how would i do that anyways?

thanks for your help all

When you install Win2K it asks you if you want to format your drive as NTFS. Or you can use Partition Magic to change it over, but you have to get the latest version, 6 I think, because the previous ones won't install on Win2K. You can dual boot under NTFS, you just won't be able to access your NTFS partition from your other OS, unless it's NTFS too.

<< if i convert to NTFS i cannot convert back to fat32 unless u format my drive, right? >>

Correct.

<< and i cannot set a dual boot system either, right? i am running win2k pro by itself right now, but i may run windowsME in the future. >>

If you?re thinking of dual booting it is recommended that you install Win9x/ME first, and then Win2k.

<< so u guys think i should convert my drive to ntfs? how would i do that anyways? >>

Read this thread, and use the example listed.
