That, and having kids before they are ready (mentally, and/or financially)

Getting married too soon.

Having kids too soon.

Not exploring life before having kids (IE - Vacations, seeing the world, all around having fun)

Not taking a chance (IE - No way am I going to take that job! It's 2000 miles away!!)

Getting into too much debt. Just because you qualify for credit does not mean you need to spend the $$$.

Staying in a dead end job.

Not finishing your education.

I'd have to say the biggest mistakes are probably in this order:
1) Drug abuse,
2) Having children they don't want/can't raise/too early,
3) Spending beyond your means,
4) Getting married without really knowing your gf/bf - I dated 5 years before I got married (one year is far too soon for most couples, but it is quite typical),
5) Not valuing your family until it is too late,
6) Getting the wrong friends,
7) Considering only yourself when making decisions,
8) Wasting your opportunities,
9) Unwillingness to sway from the path your parents put you on (ie not moving from your hometown/state, not considering other religions, not considering the other political party, etc),
10) Not valuing education.

Those ten things will have dramatic negative effects on your life. The ones near the top of the list have the worst effect, and are the most difficult to change once you made the mistake.

1) Compromising on principles
2) Not trying
3) Living your life with regrets
4) Not living up to your potential
5) Not putting the toilet seat down

Letting the College of Arts and Sciences convince you to "take a few classes and see what you like" What a waste of time and money.

Buying anything within a month of its debute.

Letting academic performance from high school dictate your college major.

Im sure i could think of more, but im not in a particularly bitter mood today.

Glad we agree. Not many people take the time to plan out which one they're going to break each day of the week, and it just overwhelms them when they've got to make up so much ground on the Saturday night.

When IS the best time to have kids?

When you're mature enough to handle the responsibility and hopefully don't owe money on everything in their home. Generally (GROSS GENERALIZATION ALERT!!), <29 does not = ready.

How true how true. My GF and i will be a month shy of 4 years when we get married this spring, i had a convo with a friend who is getting married next nov, he's known the woman for a total of 11 months and dated her for maby 5 before proposing. Comparing our stories made it evident he was about to make a big mistake.

Well, its not the biggest mistake of my life, but rather my biggest regret. I had an opportunity to study abroad during for the last quarter during college (specifically Hong Kong and or Europe) and I didn't go abroad b/c I had an job offer that i ended up accepting. As it turns out, I hated that job and am now doing something else totally different from my first job.

In other words, for all u college peeps, GO ABROAD for at least a quarter. I personally think that it is the one thing all college students should experience B4 graduating or working. Trust me, you will have a blast! Don't be like me, I seriously regret not going and I am always pondering what my life now would be like if I had gone. Who knows, maybe I would have ended up staying and working abroad full time.

One thing for sure in life: DO NOT REGRET!!! GO ABROAD!

I also really regret not going abroad during college

Other things:
Don't waste time/effort on friendships that aren't worth it.
Don't go into debt.
Don't marry bf you are absolutely sure. Same goes for having kids.
Don't forget to tell your parents/brothers/sisters/etc you love them.
Don't be cheap unless you have to, if it affects someone, later you may feel guilty when they're gone.
Don't go with what your friends say if you really want to do something else.

You hit that nail on the head. I'm about to marry too soon, to the wrong person and for the wrong reasons. Problem is, I don't know how to extricate myself from the situation. The marriage has its own momentum now, and all my attempts to slow it down seem to fail.
