What are the USB ports on a PS2 for?

There's a memory card trick that will allow you to backup games to the internal HD on the PS2. I have a 120GB hard drive installed and about 10 games on it. It's pretty fast! No need to burn it onto a DVD-R

i heard long ago, that zip drives were suppose to be supported via usb. you could save games on zip disks etc.
never tried it out though

so apparently you can transfer files between the memory card and usb drive? can anyone explain how, and also where i could get rosters for older sports games (espn college hoops 2k4, madness 2002 and 2003)

Do PC keyboards work with PS2?

Fixed and yes.

No, I meant what I asked. I guess if PC keyboards work on PS2 though, the Sony branded ones are just regular USB keyboards. I want a laptop style keyboard for my PC and am eying this one. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ...details/US/EN,CRID=2282,CONTENTID=6636

Yes, that keyboard works with a PC. I bought that exact same keyboard thinking that it would be pretty cool to have a laptop style keyboard but it was a pain in the ass when trying to hit backspace since it's almost half the height of a regular backspace key.

My roomate bought one of the keyboards for the PS2 (well one marketed for it), not sure if it is the Logitech one or not, but it looks a lot like it. If it is, then I would pass, its way too small. The keys on the laptop I'm typing on are much larger, and yet is smaller in size than that keyboard is. Its really difficult to type on.

Yeah, you can rip the discs to your computer but I don't have a DVD burner so I can't actually BURN the backups to disc to play them. I've been sitting for a few months with backups on an external USB drive but no way to burn and play them. I know there's specific software needed to burn them because there are bad sectors on the PS2 discs intentionally. Windows will try correcting the data to remove the bad sectors when you read the discs in the computer, which is why you can't just rip and burn to new DVD to play the game. The data will still be on the burned DVD, but the PS2 is programmed to ignore the discs because the bad sectors are missing.

Anyway, I've got the slim PS2 so there's no room for an internal drive like there is on the old, clunky ones. 🙁

Uh, don't know what you're talking about there Nik. When I had my PS2 with.......I believe, a DMS3, all it took was popping the disc in, making an image with Nero, and burning it to a DVD-R.

what's DMS3 😕

Edit:
Apparently DMS3 is a mod chip. Yeah, those aren't legal in the US last time I checked.

Anyway... anyone got a suggestion on how to get the PS2 to recognize games on an external USB HDD?

Mod chips are legal. You can use USB Advance to play games off a USB hard drive, but compatibility isn't outstanding.

For $65 you can get a case replacement for the PSTwo that lets you use any PATA hard drive. Either use a mod chip to play backups on DVD-R or the hard drive, or you can use HD Loader.

Sharkport is USB also.

Sharkport doesn't work with the new slim PS2

I have one, and I was quite disappointed, since I am unable to transfer the NCAA 2006 roster files to my memory card.
