You shouldn't feed your dog anything other than dog food & dog treats. Maybe an occasional egg for his/her coat maintenance.

Sorry, you asked.

I'd personally just get the vet to recommend a good, high quality dog food. Not "Walmart brand doggie chow" with cute mispelled letters, but real, quality food.

It'll cost more, but you want her to be healthy, right?

I've never fed any of my dogs anything other than store bought dry food. They have all lived long and healthy lives. You don't need to feed them the canned stuff or anything fancy.

Agree w/ above. If you are going to use store bought brands, Purina One is > all that I've seen. And what I buy. And what our dog likes. You can quickly tell crappy ones cuz they have filler like corn, flour, rice, etc as the first ingredient. Purina One lists a meat product as first. That said, there are better ones, up to you.

If you really like, you can prepare food for your dog. There are websites with info. Search google.

Yeah, the last dog we had ate Purina One. She was very, very active even at 9 (she was a French Poodle). She liked to fetch and run around in the yard. Way more energy than I've ever seen a dog have.

We're asian and we give our dog some table scraps... which is really bad for him, but we chop some chicken or roast pork into tiny pieces and mix it in with his dry food. I can't imagine this is any better, but he simply won't eat dry food by itself anymore - we've spoiled him too much already.

My friend told me he fed his dog nothing but table scraps and the dog now has diabetes as a direct result.

My roommate had a dog, I gave him some soy milk. All I can say is it left a BIG wet mess.

So no soy milk :)

I feed my dog t-bone steaks from the market. One for me, one for him. He loves it. Dogs have feelings too. ;)

Can you explain this? Diabetes from table scraps?

Why exactly is choclate poisonous for dogs?

I feed my dog with purina twice a day, milk once a day, and dog treats maybe 2-3 times. Table scraps usually come from my girlfriends.

Someone advised me not to feed my dog with anything that has to do onions, resins oe vinegar ... is this true?

I think it's the cocoa in particular in the chocolate that has some bad effect on them.

I feed my dog dry food only from the pet store. Iams Eukaneuba lamb and rice formula and Bil jack.

Canned food is not good for dogs. Not only that it cause there teeth to become yellow. If your dog's fussy, then don't feed him anything else until he eats his food. They eventually give in like mine did.

Chocolate and onions are poisonous to dogs. (Dont know why, but thats what my book says)
One of our neighbors dogs recently died from eating chocolate; he somehow got ahold of two hershey bars and got really sick. They took him to the vet, but there was nothing they could do and put him to sleep :(
